President report 2019

It's been another great year for the KSC Phoenix basketball club. I want to yet again thank all the committee members, both past and present. It is through their support and constant effort that has made this club as strong as it is and it has been a pleasure working with you all.

 An aspect of the club that has never ceased to amaze me is that a large percentage of our membership base has been generated from Bayswater north primary school, and I am in awe that we have so many members from such a limited source.

 Upon joining the committee our club has more than doubled in the number of teams we have entered and we have consistently had a 30% representation on grand final day. More than most clubs!! This is a reflection of the quality of our coaching staff. I offer my thanks to both the coaches and team managers who constantly give of their time every week without expectation of anything in return.

 My proudest moment on the committee was when we delivered our new look logo and uniforms which brought the club into the 21st century. To complement this, an online uniform and merchandise ordering system has now been established which has streamlined the process of purchasing a uniform.

 My most embarrassing moment was the saga surrounding the banner. It took 6 months to produce, (as we were having trouble with pixilation), only to discover a spelling mistake after 3 of us had proof read it. It then went 'missing' for several months as people searched their homes and cars whilst all along it was in my hall cupboard as I continued to mistake it for one of my camping tents.

 Another highlight of my tenure was when KSC Phoenix won the million stars competition. The million stars project was a nation wide campaign to raise awareness around domestic violence and children were encouraged to make stars in our clubs colours to be displayed in a constellation at the commonwealth games held on the Gold Coast in Queensland in 2018.

 Throughout my time on committee, several initiatives were introduced and implemented these include the Phoenix future stars program, which still runs every Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to all those involved for your ongoing work. If there is anyone who has some spare time please offer your support, as this program is the backbone to ensuring our continued growth. Secondly, a Facebook account was set up to promote the achievements of our members. Please send your child's photo and story to our secretary for publication. Thirdly,

we have established a calendar of sausage sizzles at various venues throughout the district the major one being our booking at Bunnings. The funds raised help keep our membership fees down, so if you can spare an hour or two once a year it would be greatly appreciated.

 Our annual family fun day which is held for the purpose to recognise our long service achievement recipients and our club persons of the year, moved to Bayswater north primary, school after having been held at the local swimming pool for the past 10 years, proved as successful as always with events such as egg and spoon races, a lolly in the jar count and shootout competition which everyone enjoyed.

 I feel so proud and honored to have been able to serve you all, both as a boys coordinator and your president over the past 20 years.  In order for our continued growth and for our club to rise to greater heights, it's time to make way for a younger generation of thinkers as we need new ideas and fresh energy. It is my duty to pass the baton on and I'm very confident that I am leaving it in good hands.
