Lidcombe Oval

Auburn Warriors

Lidcombe Oval is the home ground of the Auburn Warriors Junior Rugby League Club and was the main home ground for the Western Suburbs Magpies First Grade team between 1967 to 1986.

The Chester Hill Hornets Junior Rugby League Club compete against the Warriors in the Canterbury-Bankstown Junior Rugby League (CBDJRL) and Sydney Combined Competition (SCC).

Lidcombe Oval hosted 199 premiership matches - all featuring Wests. Single premiership matches were held at Lidcombe in 1951, 1953 and 1954 with the Magpies main home ground at Pratten Park in Ashfield. Both Lidcombe and Pratten shared home games in 1967 and since 1967 only 11 matches were played at Pratten with Wests firmly establishing themselves at Lidcombe.

In 1980, Chester Hill Hornets junior and Rugby League legend Terry Lamb made his first grade premiership debut at Lidcombe Oval scoring two tries in Wests victory against Balmain.

The last premiership match was played in 1986 with Easts winning 8-6 against Wests in a try-less game. The Magpies moved to Campbelltown in 1987 saying goodbye to the Lidcombe area.

Lidcombe Oval is located on Church St in Lidcombe alongside the train-line.
