Registrations are open now for the upcoming season at the Kingborough Tigers Football Club Junior and Youth Division for boys and girls in Under 8’s to Under 18’s.

We are following a similar timeline as we have done in previous seasons in that a strict cut-off date for registrations in age groups from Under 8 to Under 18 will be applied. The reason for taking this stance is detailed further below.  Please support us in this important process.

Numbers are crucial:

In Junior age groups we often find ourselves in a position where we have too many players for one (or two) team/s but not enough for two (or three).  This season in the Youth age groups we find we have some age groups where we do not have the numbers for even one healthy sized team.

Why we need to know how many teams we have in each age group? This enables us to appoint coaches and seek out parent support for each team. Early appointment of coaches enables them to attend accreditation and training offered at this time. The club is also able to offer training and accreditation to first aiders and sports trainers within the pre-season period.

Rosters need to be organised: The STJFL needs to know the number of teams in each age group to prepare the season fixture in a timely fashion. Adding a team later can mean major changes to fixtures and venues and the difference between an age group having a BYE or not.

Frequently asked questions:

What age group is my child in?

The age group for your child is determined by the age they are turning this year. For example players turning 11 in 2019 play Under 11’s.

Can my child play UP an age group? For reasons of equity, safety and personal development the Club insists on participation in a player’s appropriate age group. Opportunities during the season will be provided to interested players identified by coaches and supported by parents, to play up in the next age group for development.

Youth players identified by AFL Tasmania may be requested to play in older age groups.

Can my child play DOWN an age group? Over age exemptions are often granted by the league to assist clubs to field teams or to accommodate the needs of players i.e size, maturity, school year, level of experience. Players born in the last 3 months of the previous year can apply for an overage permit to play in the next age group down.

Under 8 - Are mixed teams, open to boys and girls turning 8 in 2019 OR turning 7 prior to the 30th June 2019. Those turning 7 would ideally have participated in at least one season of Auskick. Players turning 7 in their Under 8 year would participate for two seasons in Under 8, then continue on with their peers.

How do the girls age groups work:

Girl’s football combines two age groups in each competition. This season there are 5 age groups. Under 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. So for exampleUnder 12 Girls includes girls turning 11 or 12 in 2019.

What night will training be for my age group?

For Under 8 to Under 12 teams we are unable to advise at this stage. Coach availability and equitable ground usage are factors. Under 8 to Under 10 teams (perhaps Under 11?) will train at Snug Oval as Kingston Beach Oval is at maximum capacity with Under 12 to Under 18 teams all training there.

How do we register if we are coming from Auskick?

Transitioning from Auskick - you will be able to register using this process. Your child’s Auskick record transfers to the Junior Division. Select NEW MEMBER/AUSKICK when registering.
