Registrations are now open for the upcoming season at the Kingborough Tigers Football Club Junior and Youth Division for Under 8’s to Under 17’s.
We are following a similar timeline as we have done in previous seasons in that a strict cut-off date for registrations in age groups from Under 8 to Under 17 will be applied. The reason for taking this stance is detailed further below. Please support us in this important process.

Numbers are crucial: In previous seasons the club has found itself in a position, particularly in the Youth age groups where we have too many players for one team but not enough for two. What this means is a scramble around schools and other clubs for more players to make up two teams. Inevitably due to injury and availability, each week becomes a struggle to field teams and places a lot of stress on coaching staff and other volunteers in the club. Most importantly we have found it lessens the players AFL experience.
Why we need to know how many teams we have in each age group? This enables us to appoint coaches and seek out parent support for each team. Early appointment of coaches enables themto attend accreditation and training offered at this time. The club is also able to offer training and accreditation to first aiders and sports trainers within the pre-season period.
Rosters need to be organised: The STJFL needs to know the number of teams in each age group to prepare the season fixture in a timely fashion. Adding a team later can mean major changes to fixtures and venues and the difference between an age group having a BYE or not.
Frequently asked questions:
The age group for your child is determined by the age they are turning this season. When age groups are combined (ie Under 16 boys) the teams are made up of players turning 15 and 16 years of age. Youth players identified by AFL Tasmania may be requested to play in older age groups.
Under 8 - Are mixed teams, open to boys and girls turning 8 in 2018 OR turning 7 prior to the 30th June 2018. Seven year olds would ideally have participated in at least one season of Auskick.
Under 11 Girls - Open to girls turning 9, 10 or 11 in 2018
Under 17 Girls - Although the age group specifies Under 17, we are able to accept girls turning 18 into this team, IF THIS IS THEIR FIRST YEAR OF AFL and they do not wish to play TSLW or SFLW.
Transitioning from Auskick - you will be able to register using this process. Your childs Auskick record transfers to the Junior Division. Select NEW MEMBER/AUSKICK when registering.
