Mayne take home back-to-back flags

Maroochydore's run at their first flag in 19 years has come to an end at the hands of a ferocious Mayne on Saturday.

Mayne's relentless pressure on the ball carrier and run out of the contest saw them control the tempo of the game for three quarters, opening up what what you'd assume would be a match winning lead at half time (48-15).

The Tigers then extended the lead to 43 points mid way through the 3rd quarter before late goals to Percy and Normo pulled it back to 32 points at the final break... 3 qtr time - Mayne 10.13.73 leading Maroochydore 6.5.41 with plenty of work to do.

However, Maroochydore have been arguably the strongest second-half team of 2015 and coach Brett Maloney implored the boys to draw on the tortuous pre-season and bring it home.

The Roos got the first goal within two minutes thanks to a smother and Sammy McKenzie goal however Mayne's Caleb Brown countered it a few minutes later.

With each minute, the unlikey come-from-behind victory became even more unlikely.

However, all of suddent the tide began to turn. Bunnings recruit Liam O'Halloren kicked truly from 50 before Percy earned a free kick and banged it home from the pocket to reduce the margin to 24.

Two minutes later Jacko Ryan is put on the goaline after a late hit earned him 50m. That goal brought the margin back to 18 before Brent Pearson drifted forward to slot one home and bring it back to two goals.

Game on! The boys are fired up. The crowd is going nuts. We're 21 minutes into the last quarter.

Percy marks and lines up to bring it back to a 6 points... it drifts past. 11 point lead to Mayne.

Mayne boot the ball out of their defence and Jacob Simpson, one of Maroochydore's best for the day, reaches for the skies and brings down one of the best pack marks you'll see at country footy (pictured). He slams it into the 50, O'Halloran gathers and kicks his second for the quarter to bring the margin down to 5 points.

The goals came in a flurry, we're only 24 minutes into the quarter, so there's plenty of time for both sides. However, the momentum is with Maroochydore and they look more likely to go on with it.

Mayne surged forward and Faulkner, well held by Baker all day (all year, actually), earns a free kick from 40 out, kicks truly and steadies the Mayne ship.

Mayne surge forward again, they've killed the Maroochydore flow, Faulkner kicks another and the Mayne boys were home. What a final quarter!

Final score: Mayne 13.20.98 defeat Maroochydore 12.7.79. Caleb Brown caps off a big week, backing up his league medal with the GF BOG medal, however Heffernan-Roper must have also been close.

What a game, what a season!

Maroochydore threw everything that had at them in the last, but when push came to shove, Mayne found a way.

Faulkner lays a big tackle in the 50, gets rewarded, and will line up from 35

Can't be long to go now. Ball still in the Tigers 50. Think they are home now

Magill's shot was skinny. Tigers by 12

GOAL TIGERS: FAULKNER IS ICE COLD! Goal umpire doesn't move.

24 points, 17 minuts in. Game on

GOAL ROOS: Roberts gets the free for too high, and dobs it from 35 in the pocket.

Tigers 84 Roos 60

Few whispers around the traps that this will be Luke Faulkner's last game. If it is, a goal in the last quarter will be a great way to cap his outstanding career off.

Corbin Sells has more tape around his head than a mummy. Given it everything today. Deserves this medal.

GOAL ROOS: O'Halloran, kicks from, 45 gets the friendly sheppard on the line, and gets them alive.

Tigers 82 Roos 53

Mayne peppering now. Just about lights out for Maroochydore here. Need to take this game on at all costs.

Caleb Brown putting his hand up for best on ground here today. That's a massive goal in the scheme of things. He has been huge today

GOAL TIGERS: Brown, running away from goal, snaps truly.

Tigers 80 Roos 47

GOAL ROOS: That's some start. Page goes off the ground, it's smothered, before McKenzie picks it off the ground in the square and thumps it through

Tigers 73 Roos 47

Last quarter underway. 30 minutes until we crown the premiers of 2015

Must apologise. I had snags in bread on my mind and forgot to do the half time joke. Better late than never.

What did 0 say to 8

Nice belt

3QT: Mayne 10.13.73 leading Maroochydore 6.5.41

Next one here to Maroochydore would make things very interesting. Ball locked in their 50

GOAL ROOS: Norman, who was left one out, shakes off his opponent before clunking one 15 out directly in front

Tigers 73 Roos 41

What do you do when the ball is coming at you, and both arms are locked up with your opponent? Throw your right boot at it according to Heffernan-Roper

GOAL ROOS: Roberts spots up Gale in the middle, he takes two quick steps before guiding it home from 40.

Tigers 70 Roos 33

The breeze has died off now. Not worth much at all

GOAL TIGERS: Housego gets his first of the afternoon with a quick snap around his body.

Tigers 70 Roos 27

Kick to kick between the half forward lines at the moment, but nothing being left out there. Commitment levels at an all time high

Time to catch my breath. That was quick!

Second half underway

HALF TIME: Mayne 7.6.48 leading Maroochydore 2.3.15

Caleb Brown has been very, very good this afternoon

Faulks definitely owes Caldow a beer tonight. Extra goal next to his name for the afternoon

GOAL TIGERS: Caldow clunks one on the lead, before going back, giving the hands off to Faulkner who pops it through on the run.

Tigers 48 Roos 15

They are the goals that hurt. When a team attacks for 10 miuntes, can't get one, and the ball goes down the other end and the oppositio score immediately.

GOAL TIGERS: Shaun Daly had absolutely no right to kick that goal. Between gathering and slamming it on the boot, he had 0.5 seconds. Somehow managed to bring it from left to right, and for a goal.

Tigers 42 Roos 15

the Roos' defintely have all the play at the moment, just can't buy a goal. Mayne getting numbers back well

Dzufer is ridiculously strong over the ball. Bounced off about three Mayne players in the five minutes without losing his footing.

Maroochydore looking very long in their forward 50 entries now, seeing what Roberts can do. Hartley is getting back well to get a fist in

Both teams are pretty happy playing down the line at the moment, which is playing into Mayne's hands. Maroochydore need to take a few risks and open it up, The ground size allows for it

Four players just went ot ground in that marking constest on the wing, and somehow Gale stood up with it. Judged it perfectly.

Wind has swung around. Now favouring the end Maroochydore is kicking.

GOAL TIGERS: Caleb Brown picks one off his bootlaces, swings around, and drills it.

Tigers 35 Roos 13

Second quarter underway. The Roos need to find a bit more space around the football here

QUARTER TIME: Mayne 4.4.28 leading Maroochydore 2.1.13

GOAL ROOS: Norman goals from point-blank range.

Tigers 28 Roos 13

Norman gets rid of his opponent deep, before going up against the man floating back, to take a good contested grab 7 meters out

GOAL TIGERS: Some very slick hands around the goal square sees Caleb Brown with nothing but the goal line in front of him. Easy as you like.

Tigers 28 Roos 7

Mayne are definitely on top here. Making sure the game is slowed down where it needs to be, and hitting targets by foot, which is the difference early

Just as I write that, a couple of set shots have gone begging

GOAL TIGERS: Mcelligott throws a quick one on the boot and gets it to bend the right way. Making the most of their forward 50 entries, are Mayne.

Tigers 20 Roos 7

Maroochydore giving Jame Page the entire forward 50 at this stage. Look for the long ball coming into him

Trouble early for Mayne. Greville has limped off with the help of the trainers with what looks to be a right leg injury. Will keep an eye on that one

With that goal, comes the Roos, Roos, Roos, chant from the crowd. Awesome to hear

GOAL ROOS: Ryan gets out the back of the contest, long ball bounces up nicely and he runs into an open goal. Read it to perfection.

Tigers 12 Roos 6

Having said that, it's clearly working. Would have had four or five touches already

Shaun Daly doesn't mind pulling the shorts right up high does he

GOAL TIGERS: Brunnenmeyer goes BANG from 45 with a long bomb. Super finish. Super start.

Tigers 12 Roos 0

GOAL TIGERS: Faulkner, as he has done all year, gets Mayne off to a flyer with a goal inside the first minute after finding space in a pack

Mayne with the first clearance of the afternoon
