New Media help Cats spread the word
The Cooma Cats AFL Club is continuing to embrace New Media in an effort to support its communications objective and inform the community about the club’s results, news and activities.
As part of its New Media engagement strategy, the Cooma Cats have up-to-date and informative web and blog sites, and its very own YouTube TV Channel.
Club President Dave Paterson said the web site served a “virtual club house” for the Cats, while the blog site provided a daily notice-board function.
“Our website – www.coomacats.sportingpulse.net –is where we store all our official information, policies, archives, honour boards, history, match reports, player lists, fixtures, sponsor details and so on,” dave said.
“Separately, our blog site – www.ccomcats.blogspot.com – is where we put up routine notices and general notices for club members and fans to stay informed on day to day issues surrounding the club,” he said.
Meanwhile, as part of the club's comprehensive public information campaign, the Cooma Cats' YouTube Channel was launched at the start of Season 2010 and provides a video report on its games each week, as well as other video reports on general club news. To date, the site has had over 1500 hits.
Dave said the nature of the AFL competition the Cats play in means the team is regularly on the road and it can be difficult for supporters to get to places like Goulburn, Yass and Cootamundra to cheer them on.
"So our YouTube Channel enables our supporters and sponsors to follow the team's performance through specially produced video stories each week," Dave said.
"These video reports then compliment the great coverage we get in our local print and radio media," he said.
Dave said that apart from Cats' players and fans, he hoped more people from across the Monaro and Snowy Mountains got on to YouTube and the club’s web and blog sites to follow the Cats' progress this season.
"As a community-based club, we work really hard to represent Cooma and the Snowy Mountains as a strong, family-focused club when we play at home, in Canberra and across southern New South Wales," Dave said.
"Through the Cooma Cats’ YouTube Channel and our other New Media sites, we hope that people from the region and beyond can come and see what type of club we are, and want to join and support us as we bring AFL to the region," he said.
"We are a great club to belong to, and welcome everyone to log on and find out more about us.
“Just go to YouTube on the internet, and type in ‘Cooma Cats’ to have a look. We hope you like it,” Dave said.
