We have farewelled three star premiership players, as they embark on footballing journeys in Victoria. The club is proud of the tremendous breeding ground it’s become for players chasing top-level dreams. Best wishes to Tyrone Armitage, Lachlan Kilpatrick and Tom Thurgarland in Victoria!
But while Manly Warringah continues growing it’s player development reputation, the club has also created a culture and environment that warmly welcomes new players, of all backgrounds and experience.
Without further ado, the Giants unveil seven talented new additions to the 2015 senior squad, which will no doubt ensure the club remains competitive across the board this season! There are of course a mere sample, but seven is enough for now. The image below is of Jake, Cam, Max and Ethan.
1/ WAFL up-and-comer
Name:Ethan Panizza
Age: 23
Previous Club: Claremont Tigers
Already has senior footy experience, and at 23 was ready to become a regular fixture in the WAFL seniors comp before lifestyle reasons brought him to Sydney.
"I was known for my speed and defensive /counter running patterns. Been playing footy since I was 8 to follow in my dad's footsteps who played for the Tigers as well and WA hall of fame football player so there was a bit of pressure. But loved every minute of it now I'm happy to call my self a Giant and looking forward to round one and representing the Northern beaches.”
Club View: Adds glamour and speed on field and off. Deft recruiting brought him to the Club and those with a background in the WAFL speak of a football heritage.
2/ A former representative player and quality halfback flank from the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) (It's a STRONG league)
Name: Cameron Livori
Age: 23
Previous Club: Played whole senior football career at Old Essendon Grammar Football Club
Represented Victoria in the u/23 VAFA team in 2012,2013 and open age VAFA representative in 2014. Cam has a strong desire to turn around his zero from six Grand Final history
Club View: A very tidy mover, with penetrating and accurate disposal by foot. Another running player who can slide through the midfield or damage from the flanks. The Club is happy to work on fixing up the GF record as well.
3/ Gun Manly junior that has returned
Name: Jake Monk
Age: 19
Previous Club: He went to Northshore when he was 16, having previously played at representative level as a 14, 15-year-old. A Northern Beaches junior from the Manly Bombers. Jake was selected in the Sydney Development squad (under 23 ) last season but couldn't play due to injury. He played over 20 senior games at the Bombers.
Club View: A skillful and very lively small forward who will develop as a midfield option over the coming years. Pace to burn, hungry to learn and very likely to kick some big bags of goals in 2015. Previous team mate of Izzy Rudolph, Hayden Washington and James Behagg. Welcome home.
4/ A speedy, classy, lefty midfielder from North Warrnambool Eagles in the Hampden League
Name: Sam Batten
Age: 24
Previous Club: North Warrnambool Eagles
Sam is a hard running 186 cm flanker or Winger. As a student we appreciate he will be seeking to lead the quiet and law abiding lifestyle. While we think that is unlikely (at least the quiet bit) we do wish to see him enjoying the beaches, the books and the footy.
Club View: Appears very likely to hit the scoreboard with great run and carry and the traditional Warnambool desire for a hard physical game
5/ 191cm tall forward
Name: Sam Rooney
Age: 28
Previous Club: Sam is an Ainslie Football Club junior, who spent last season at the Illawarra Lions. He has the height and pedigree to deliver. More importantly, he has worked out the beaches at Lake Burley Griffin are not so flash and Manly, Freshie etc are a step up again from the Gong
Club View: A tall forward is always an attractive option and he joins a good collection, with his mature body adding to a raft of options for Coach Brain and his gang off schemers.
6/ Played for Sydney Uni’s NEAFL team 2 years ago
Name: Max Carter
Previous Club: Max is a St Ives boy who has wandered a little with his footy, having played for Northshore, Sydney Rep team and Sydney University in the NEAFL where he picked up a rising star nomination in 2013. Max has had a few games with the Swans Ressies as a top up player and brings experience and polish to the group.
Club View: The past inhabitants of Acron oval have made their way to Weldon before including Sam Rix and Assistant Coach Brent Hutton. That is good company. (the last comment is a paid announcement from Sam Rix)
7 / A junior Star returns and adds to women’s depth
Name: Izzy Rudolph
Age: 19
Previous Club: A Manly Bombers girl, Izzy has been away from footy for a few years playing the round ball game as she was pushed away from Manly when there were no viable options for women. We now have a womens team and Manly is adding an under 18s team for girls this season. In summary there is a womens pathway growing on the beaches and Izzy is back. Rumour has it that Izzy played in the same junior team with Jake Monk (see above) and Hayden Washington … and when the season came to an end and the silverwear was handed out the B & F was hanging from her neck.
Club View: Can play, good running patterns, excellent ball use and blends easily with the group. The type of player that will attract the attention of other coaches at the club looking for a smart player that can kick goals.
