The Wolves continued their perfect start to Season 2013 with a successful trip down to the Gong.
Premier Division – Manly Warringah 15.9 (99) def Illawarra 10.8 (68)
Round 2 looked to be a tough test as the boys from the beaches had a road trip to Wollongong to contend with. Coming off a strong performance against Balmain the Wolves would need to bring the same intensity and with a number of injuries and unavailability’s a new look Wolves side ran out at North Dalton Park. Up against a strong wind in the opening quarter the Wolves stood tall and went into the first break just a goal behind. Goals to Robbo and youngsters Washo, Parker and Screetch got the Wolves up and about in the 2nd term and when Beckett goaled from 50 the Wolves were staring a 4 goal lead at the main break.
Again into the teeth of the breeze the Wolves stood tall, goals from Washo and Jasper maintained the lead around 4 goals going into the final term and with the wind behind their backs the Wolves were never headed. Robbo took control of the game and a couple of goals from under 18 Tommy Mac saw the lead balloon out to 48 points. Illawarra kicked the final 3 goals of the game in junk time from some questionable free kicks but the Wolves were the ones celebrating, heading back to Sydney with the 4 points. Robbo was a standout BOG, dominating the game in the middle and pushing forward with 3 goals. Other contributors were Peter Buncle (APAB), Magnum, The Prodigal Son Beckett and Wearne. Wills rucked tirelessly in his welcomed return to footy whilst up forward Washo continued his goal scoring tear with another 4 majors, he leads the competition with 10 after 2 rounds.
Spare a thought for young gun Jack Parker who suffered a lower leg fracture in the 3rd quarter of the win, for a 16 year old playing his first game of Premier Division footy he didn’t look out of place at all, we wish him a speedy recovery.
This week Super Saturday concludes at Weldon oval with Premier Divisions biggest test so far in the top comp up against premiership contenders Pennant Hills
Division 2 – Manly Warringah 9.7 (61) def Illawarra 8.11 (59)
Earlier in the day the Wolves held on for a 2 point win in the reserves despite a roaring comeback by the Lions with the wind in the final term. In a scrappy affair the Wolves led all day but nearly got ran down. Dom, Blakey and Schoolshoes were stars through the middle and without their drive the Wolves wouldn’t have been the match at all. Jarrah and JJ were solid up forward contributing 6 goals between them and Brendo had another solid performance down back. It leaves the 2’s in 3rd place with an undefeated start to season but will face their biggest test thus far up against league leaders and premiership favourites Sydney Uni.
Division 4 – Manly Warringah 11.11 (77) def North Shore 7.12 (54)
Div 4 kicked off their season with their first win in Season 2013 with a solid 4 goal victory over local rivals North Shore. Only leading by 2 goals at half time the Wolves kicked away with a 6-4 goal 2nd half running out 23 point winners.
