Jasmine Hunt out due to chronic injury.

It is with great regret that Latrobe City Energy announces the clubs decision to terminate Jasmine Hunt’s playing contract due to a chronic injury. Whilst both parties are devastated by the outcome of medical tests, the club must consider the on court viability of our Women’s team and the long term impact on Jasmine’s health into the future. We wish Jasmine a full recovery into the future and all the success this impressive young lady deserves.

The club will investigate the possibility of finding a replacement for Jasmine and we wish our Latrobe City Energy Women’s and Men’s team all the best for our opening games tomorrow night at the Power House.

Let’s go Energy!
Trevor Henry, President.

Double Trouble: Energy signs 2nd D1M Import Raheem Lemons

Energy Basketball are thrilled to announce the signing of our second Division 1 Men's Import, Raheem Lemons. Raheem was a 2 year starter for Central State University, Ohio who play Division 2 NCAA. He earned All-American honours in his final year, and was voted on to the All-Conference 1st team. Raheem was a statistical leader, having the most double doubles and rebounds in the Great Midwest conference last year. He averaged 13.3ppg and 9.3 rebounds.

Coach Jason Sutherland said "Pairing a player like Raheem with Jordan Coleman there is sure to be many highlights for Energy fans this season." Sutherland is excited to have the presence of Raheem's inside calibre on the team this season, and expects that he will accumulate massive rebounds, which will greatly benefit the team.

Energy Basketball president Trevor Henry said "We are thrilled to have signed our second U.S. import for our Men's team, which will add even more depth to our playing roster." Henry also noted that this is the first time in many years that Energy has taken on a second Men's import and highlighted that this would mean exciting times for the club in the 2016 season. "We are looking forward to having Raheem join the Energy family this season."

Raheem Lemons will join the Energy in early March 2016, ahead of the season tip-off later in the month.

Energy signs US Import Jordan Coleman

Energy Basketball are thrilled to announce the signing of US import Jordan Coleman who graduated from Valparaiso University in 2014. Coleman played for the Valparaiso Crusaders in the NCAA Division 1 competition. The 6 foot 5 guard averaged 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, and played an average of 20.9 minutes per game in his final season with the Crusaders.

Coach Jason Sutherland believes that having a player of Coleman’s stature will be very exciting for Latrobe City Energy in 2016. Speaking of what he can bring to Energy on the court Sutherland said “Jordan was team captain in his senior year, which will bring valuable leadership to our program. At 6’5, he can play the 1, 2 and 3 spot, making him a difficult player to guard.

Jordan is looking forward to coming to Australia to represent Energy on and off the court. He will definitely be an exciting player to watch next year.”

Energy Basketball president Trevor Henry said “Energy is thrilled to sign Jordan for the 2016 Big V Season. His leadership skills and playing credentials will add depth to the depleted men’s playing roster, and make him a great mentor for our younger elite basketballers. We are confident that Jordan will do well on and off the court and are enthusiastic to welcome him to the Energy family

Jordan Coleman will join the Energy in early February 2016 ahead of the Big V season tip-off in March.

Energy Sign US Import Jasmine Hunt

Latrobe City Energy are pleased to announce the signing of US import Jasmine Hunt who in 2015 graduated from Arkansas State University . Hunt, one of three players at ASU to average in double-figures in 2014/15 had extremely impressive stats in her final year with 11.1 points per game, started in all 35 of ASU contests, set career highs in points scored, minutes played, rebounds, free throw percentage and field goal percentage.

Coach Andrew Harlow said:  "Having an all round athlete to compliment the 2016 Energy women's team will be a huge advantage going in to the BIg V season next March. “Hunt is a genuine 6ft 2in power forward who will be exciting to watch. She will add strength, size and experience to our team.  Hunt is a player that we are certain the Gippsland and wider basketball community will embrace, enjoy watching and bring a great deal skill and enthusiasm to our local base of athletes”

Latrobe City Energy president Trevor Henry said “We're incredibly excited to have secured Jasmine for the 2016 big v season. VJBL Round 8 Wrap

Our Energy VJBL teams are nearing the middle of their 2015 season with some great results on and off the court for everyoe involved.

Several of our players have been training with the Energy senior teams, NPP, NITP and State teams over the past few month as well as their Junior Energy team. We congratulate and thank each and every one of our junior players together with thier coaches and mangers for the committment they have made to our program in 2015.

VJBL results each week can be found via this link

VJBL Round 7 Review

U14 Energy Boys, Coach Louise Cosway -  The team built an early lead thanks to some classy transition play and tight D. Hawthorn led momentarily in the 2nd quarter, but the guys quickly regrouped and hit the front, holding the lead for the rest of the game. The team showed great composure in the final minutes when Hawthorn began fouling to regain possession. Final score Latrobe 42, Hawthorn (2) 35

U14.2 Energy Girls ,Coach Gail McFarlane - We took on Hawthorn 3 at the #powerhouse with an almost full line up. Going into the game with only 1 loss so far the girls drew away to an early lead. With great defensive pressure, unselfish team play and an excellent transition running game. the girls never looked back winning 38-22.

U18 Energy Women, Coach Tracy McConnell- Henery -With our full team available for the first time since grading, the girls played Melbourne 2 at home winning 56-52 in a see-sawing game. Excellent early full court pressure defense led to lots of Casey Sherriff steals which were capitalised on in the open court by Sammy Labros who finished with 14 points. Strong rebounding by Millie Culliver and Lillie Schacht, 10 points by both Eliza Osborn and Jordan Pyle (and a the block of the season so far!) coupled with the great on court leadership of Coco Henry (5 assists) sealed the win.

U16.2 Energy Girls, Coach Dale Pronk – We  played at home this week against Pakenham 1. All was going well with some excellent team work and great defence. At half time Energy had a nine point lead and went into the final quarter with a seven point lead. Pakenham started the final quarter with an aggressive full court press and unfortunately we succumbed to the pressure and a twenty two to six point final quarter taught us all a valuable lesson. Nine point loss but looking forward to the next time we play Pakenham.

The U16 Energy Boys, Coach Jo Palmer -The team played Casey (at Casey) on Friday night for their 4th week in a row away.  The boys came out strong in the first quarter and by halftime were up 30 to 8.  They continued to build on their lead with great transition basketball and solid outside shooting in the 3rd quarter.  After a small lapse in concentration early in the fourth they regained momentum and came through with a convincing win by 38 points at full time 63-25.

U16.1 Energy Girls, Coach Matt Holmes-The team have continued their winning streak with a comprehensive 32 point win over 2nd placed Dandenong. Intensive defensive pressure and lighting fast offensive transition set up the win in the first half. A very pleasing win given we didn’t have a full roster and a few girls finished the game with injuries.

U14.1 Energy Girls, Rob Raymond The 14 Girls travelled to take on the top 4 ranked Nunawading team. Our girls played an outstanding brand of team defence which helped keep the scores tight through-out the game, this were pleaseing  pleasing signs for both both coaches. We also played a very disciplined & patient offense which created alot of uncontested shots sharing the scoring across the list, trailing by only 4pts at 3/4 time. Unfortunately we fell away in the final period to lose by 13pts. Good signs for the upcoming weeks.

Beasley Arrives In Gippsland

Energy Basketball is pleased to announce the signing and arrival of their male import for the 2015 Big V season. Terrance Beasley arrived in Australia last week and has begun training and preparing to help the Energy Men go back-to-back in Division One.

The 6’6” forward is a Florida native that played his high school basketball at Pensacola High School where he averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds per game in his senior year, earning him 1st team all-area, 2nd team all-state and defensive player of the year honours. From there Terrance was recruited to NCAA Division One, Tulane University where he played one year before returning home to finish his collegiate career with West Florida University. Whilst at WFU Terrance averaged 14 points and 6 rebounds a game and was the team captain for his senior year.

Prior to coming to Australia, Beasley toured through China representing the USA against Chinese professional sides, spent some time in the NBA D-league and played with professional sides the Fort Wayne Flite and the Indianapolis Diesel in the ABA.

When asked what he is most looking forward to about living in Australia, Beasley said “I’m looking forward to experiencing a new culture and seeing what the Gippsland area has to offer”. When asked what he thinks he can bring to the Energy Men’s side, Terrance touched on his leadership and attitude towards the game as well as his athleticism, his will to win and his basketball I.Q. Off the court Terrance is looking forward to getting involved with the Gippsland community and the Energy junior program.

The Energy Men have had a busy pre-season playing practice matches against Pakenham and most recently against the U18 Victorian Country side where Terrance was able to get his first taste of action with the team. Head Coach Les Stothard was pleased with what he has seen from Terrance early on stating, “Terrance has fit in with the guys showing the ability to beat his man off the dribble and create for himself and his team mates. His leadership is certainly a strong point and will be a valuable asset both on and off the court.”

You can catch Terrance and the Energy Men in action during Big V opening night on the 14th of March, 8:00pm @ Latrobe Leisure Traralgon where they take on Chelsea. That game will be following the Energy Women who take on Mildura at 6:00pm.

Energy Sign Women's Import for 2015

Energy Basketball is pleased to announce the signing and arrival of their female import for the upcoming Big V season. Hannah Weedman from Illinois by the way of Quincy University will be joining the Energy Women on court this season, looking to help them go one step further in 2015.

Hannah has a decorated playing resume which includes; holding the title as the all-time leader in rebounds and blocks at her high school as well as being 2nd all-time in scoring. After which she attended Quincy University where Hannah averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block per game and was chosen to the conference all-defensive team in 2012/2013 and the all-conference team in 2013/2014. Following this Hannah joined semi-professional club, the St Louis Surge where she helped lead her team to a National Championship in 2014.

When asked what she is looking forward to most about being here in Australia, Hannah said “I am looking forward to the weather and getting away from the snow.”  “But I’m also looking forward to building relationships with my coach, teammates and my host family”.

In terms of her role on the court for the Energy Women, Hannah says she will be bringing “energy and hard work” as well as “another upbeat personality to compliment the girls on the team”.

Hannah has already began training with the Energy Women and when asked how Hannah was fitting in, head coach Andrew Harlow had this to say; "Hannah has made an immediate impact, she is a demanding presence and I think she will have a big impact on the league this season".

You can catch Hannah and the Energy Women in action during Big V opening night on the 14th of March, 6:00pm @ Latrobe Leisure Traralgon where they take on Mildura. That game will be followed by the Energy Men who take on Chelsea at 8:00pm.

Short letter from the President - Trevor Henry

Hi to the Energy family,

We have exciting times ahead with our basketball future.
As a new committee we have inherited a strong, successful club much to
the work of our former President David Roberts and his past
committees. I issue a heart felt thanks on behalf of all in the
Energy family and look forward to watching Dave relax and enjoy our
Energy teams in full flight.

Moving to the upcoming season in VJBL and Big V we are poised to
succeed. With Andrew Harlow appointed Director of Coaching and the
appointment of our senior and junior coaches we will be offering a strong
focus on developing our players to be the best they can be.
This will translate in to success on the floor and more importantly we
will offer those involved personal development to take into their
future pursuits.

As indicated at the AGM, we as a committee, are looking for anyone
interested in volunteering their services to share the load. We are in
the process of establishing sub-committees in various aspects of the
Club and need people to fill roles. These roles whilst vital to the
ongoing success of the Club will not be time consuming. Roles will be
posted shortly on our team app so please consider what your
contribution can be.

I urge everyone to offer constructive, respectful feedback. Mistakes
inevitably will occur and as a committee we a striving to establish
the best basketball experience for all involved. Let us know about a
small issue before it escalates into a big issue for you. If a
solution can be found earlier, it is better for all in the long run.

Wiz scores 200!

On the eve of his 200th Big V game Simon Vannapraseuth’s attitude towards the road trip to Warrnambool is fairly indicative of his impact on and off the floor for the Latrobe City Energy. When discussing carpooling, what cars to take, who is driving etc, Simon leads the way by volunteering to drive on the provisions the side gets a W and celebrates accordingly. Selflessness is a trait that anyone lucky enough to play alongside Simon has become accustomed to during his 10 season in the VBL/BIG V competition. The point guard affectionately known to friends, teammates and family as Wiz is best known for his toughness, pace, attack on the basket (often on, but not restricted to, the left hand side) and his devastating post game.

“Wiz is the type of guy every coach wants on their team! He is a natural leader both on and off the court” said head coach Les Stothard when asked about the impact Simon has had during his time at the club. “I always know what I'm going to get with Wiz, he is going to play his hardest and do whatever is necessary for the team to succeed.”

Boun Vannapraseuth, Simon’s father, is the team manager for the Energy Men this season and said that he has always admired his son’s unselfish play. “It doesn’t matter (to him) who puts the ball in the basket”. Simon’s mother Jeanette spoke of Simon’s toughness, even as a junior, “At the tender age of 8 he went on to finish a grand final, nose stuffed with tissue and cotton wool to stop the bleeding from a broken nose”.  Jeanette continued “Boun and I are very proud of Simon and his achievements as a player”.

Energy co-captain Nick Sedley has played with or against Simon for 15 years and remembers his first experience guarding Wiz. “It was in under 14’s, I went to block his shot in to the stands and he pump-faked me out of my shoes and strolled in for a sneaky leaner off the glass”. Sedley went on to talk about playing alongside Wiz, “He is a true point guard, one that's always looking to set the table for the guys around him”. “When I’m on the floor with Wiz I always know I’m going to get some great looks”.

There is rarely a game or training where Simon doesn’t claim the scalp of a bigger defender down on the low block, his evasiveness with footwork, fakes and feather touch are often followed by cries of “pound for pound!” and a cheeky smile.  On behalf of Latrobe City Energy we would like to congratulate Simon on this milestone and thank him for his outstanding contribution to the club and to the senior program. We hope to hear of a few more victims from tonight’s game.

The Energy Men currently sit atop the Watson Conference ladder with a record of 7 wins and 1 loss and tonight they travel to take on Warrnambool who are sitting on top of the Terril Conference ladder. Tune in to the Big V website from 7pm for Live Stats or keep up to date with updates on the clubs team app.

THANKS TO STRILOCH CONSTRUCTIONS FOR SPONSORING SIMON IN 2013 & 2014

This week the club's first ever female international player is arriving to take her place on the team and will be a dynamic inclusion to the already popular women's team.

Lindsay Horbatuck will arrive on Friday from the USA and will have plenty of time to get over the jet lag and settle in before the first home game on March 15 at Latrobe Leisure Traralgon.

Horbatuck is looking forward to the opportunity to play in Australia and has come from a recent contract in the Bulgaria National League.

Coach Andrew Harlow said that Lindsay will be a great asset to the team and will complement our team style of play.

"We have some great talent already and adding Lindsay will solidify our core unit" Harlow said.

Tanarly Hood is coming off a great season in the Country Basketball League where she won the league MVP and was part of Churchill's undefeated championship team at both a Gippsland and All Conference State level.

Carly Mullen-Bianconi from Moe was runner up in the MVP count and is another player that has been great for the club since playing Victorian Championship as a Junior.

Mikaela Dickson from Warragul, polled third in the CBL MVP count will return for her second year with Energy and is set to be a much improved player due to her study at the Australian College of Basketball and some increased opportunity this year.

Polling fourth in the CBL MVP count was Jaz Allman from Maffra. Jaz is set to make her Big V debut with Energy this year and will be an exciting player to watch.

Returning for another Big V season is Laura Joyce and Liesl Sexton who were part of the Traralgon CBL team that narrowly lost a tough Semi Final to Korumburra. Both players are integral to the teams success and and are great on court leaders.

In addition, the team will welcome back some familiar faces including Tayler Brouns who missed last year and is excited and enthused to be back playing Big V this year. She is a fierce competitor and will provide an inside presence along with Horbatuck and Mullen-Bianconi.

The club is also excited to welcome back veteran's Carmen Weaver and Jess Murphy who will suit up for a number of games and are keen to be part of the team. Weaver and Murphy add a wealth of experience to the group and will be great role models for the younger players.

At some stage the team also hopes to secure the services of Cindy Wellington who is currently out injured and has spent the last six months coaching in the CBL.   Wellington's intensity and work ethic is second to none and she is a great support both on and off the court.

Club President David Roberts said that Energy has assembled a great group of players, who are friends and will blend well on the court.

"I believe we will have a great and positive season and one that we will remember as a turning point in our women's program" Roberts said.

The team is hoping to lock in another key player soon and is waiting a final commitment.

Roberts said there is also an opportunity for three U16 players join the team as development players.

These Players will have the opportunity to train with team, scrimmage with an international player and get the opportunity to suit up in a number of Big V games during the season Roberts said.

Anyone interested in joining the team and attending training should contact Coach Andrew Harlow on 0414 804 517.

A team naming sponsor is also being sought for the women and any interested businesses should contact David Roberts on 0468 431 731.

Female Import builds Energy

Latrobe City Energy is proud to announce their first ever Female Import with Lindsay Horbatuck, 185 cm Forward / Centre, set to join the Division 1 Big V Women’s team in coming weeks.

Horbatuck graduated from Bucknell University (Pennsylvania) and in her last two years as Captain, she started in 61 games and averaged 7.6 points, 1.3 Assists, 1.1 steal and 9.6 rebounds.  Her field goal percentage was 44.3% and her free just under 70%.

Horbatuck finished her College Career with 15 double-doubles and was known for her tenacity and rebounding on the court. Horbatuck graduated with the second-highest single-season rebounding total in program history, totalling 325 boards last season. That average ranked her 30th nationally and was almost two more per game than any other player in the Patriot League.

Prior to joining Energy, Horbatuck has played 10 games in the Bulgarian National League and accumulated a healthy stats line of 8.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, including 3 double doubles.

President David Roberts was excited to make the announcement on the weekend and stated that Lindsay’s inclusion would be a major boost for the club.

“Lindsay will be a great asset to the club on and off the court and will focus on strengthening the pathway for our female players” Roberts said.

“Currently, Energy is on track for two of our four girls’ VJBL teams to make Victorian Championship; the highest junior league in Australia.  It will be great to provide these players an opportunity to work with an International female player of Lindsay’s calibre”.

“Junior players will have the opportunity to be trained by Lindsay with some having the opportunity to join the Big V Women’s squad to train and potentially play alongside Lindsay.  Without doubt this will be great for their basketball development and growth as young athletes” Roberts said.

“Lindsay’s inclusion will also be a huge spark for our Women’s team and help lift them back to form that saw them make finals 2 years ago”.  Roberts continued.

“Lindsay is a hard worker on the boards and we believe she will be the missing link to our squad.  Along with our returning players, Lindsay will ensure we are extremely competitive this year and challenge for a finals spot”.  Roberts concluded.

Horbatuck herself is keen to experience the Big V and is looking forward to being a positive addition to this team, winning games and ultimately making finals.

“This is a dream come true!  Australia has been a place that I have always wanted to visit my entire life and I was excited by the opportunity to play at Latrobe City Energy.  I have been lucky enough to travel many different places while doing something that I love, playing basketball”  Horbatuck said.

“One of the biggest advantages about playing with Energy is that there is much less of a language barrier than the previous countries I have been to” she laughed.

“I am also very excited to be able to share my basketball knowledge and give back to the Gippsland community.  With my educational background in elementary education and teaching, I love when I have the opportunity to teach young kids about the sport that has given me so much” she said.
Horbatuck also has qualifications in English as a Second Language (ESL) and will be a great assist with the club’s Street Basketball for Refugees and New Arrivals, especially with the potential to get more girls involved.

Horbatuck will also look for employment locally.

She is due to arrive in Australia at the end of February and will be ready to play the opening Home Game on March 15 at Traralgon.

Weaver ignites Energy for 2014

It has been a great start to the year for Latrobe City Energy with Vashon Weaver agreeing to return to the club and play Big V in season 2014.

Vashon was first recruited by Latrobe City Energy back in 2002 and has clearly made Australia home.  He met his wife Carmen (Dean) in Traralgon and they now have 6 month old twins; Portia and Jada.

When Vashon left Latrobe City to play at a higher level and his return is highly anticipated with the club is extremely excited about his addition to the team.

Vashon is in great form and has demonstrated this through an unbeaten Country Basketball League (CBL) season with Churchill Blue Devils alongside another Energy star; Jordan Canovan.   The pair will make their appearance in the Gippsland CBL Grand Final this weekend against Warragul at Korumburra.

Vashon says he has so many good memories of Latrobe City; from doing school clinics, community appearances to the camaraderie and feeling of family that is around the club.

“It is definitely a feeling of coming back home!”  Vashon said.

Wife Carmen adds “we are very lucky and grateful that even though we have been living and playing in Melbourne for the past few years, Energy has always made us feel part of the club and welcome anytime”

“We love that we know everyone involved in the club and that the teams are supported so well by the junior teams and general community!  Carmen continues.

“Vashon and I met while playing with Energy many years ago and so we are excited to return to where it all began!” she says.

Vashon agrees that this is where it all started for him!

“I am excited to be coming back and to have the opportunity to play with this group of guys under the leadership of Coach Les Stothard” Vashon says.

With Les becoming a father of twins himself over Christmas, Vashon believes the two will have a common bond and the two could even start their own support group.

“I think it will make things a lot easier, as Les will understand the stresses and demands of being a parent of twins, but I guess he’ll be just as hard when it comes to on court performance”  Vashon says.

When questioned about his reasons for the return Weaver talks about friends, local connections and his long time goal to win a Championship with Latrobe City, which he sees as a very realistic and achievable this year.

There is a hint that he may not have played basketball at all this year and says that that family was definitely the most important reason for his continuation and return to Energy.

“Carmen actually encouraged me quite a bit to continue playing this year.  She used Portia and Jada against me during the decision making phase, she told me simply that our daughters wanted to see their Dad play”

Carmen’s Parent’s who live in Traralgon have been a huge impact on the decision and Vashon says it is great to know we have their love and support which makes playing basketball possible.

“Lastly, I think playing with friends and a great group of guys like we have at Energy makes the game enjoyable and I would definitely like to leave the game loving it!” Vashon said.

When questioned of her own return to the court, Carmen says she is looking forward to being a spectator this season and bringing the twins to watch a few games!  However, she adds “I might pop into a training session or two”

Stothard has held a variety of positions within the basketball community, including a stint with Basketball Victoria County (BVC) leading the Aussie Hoops program, a range of Coaching appointments including roles with various BVC state teams and is currently leading Energy’s Big V Mens team in a Division 1 finals campaign.

As a past representative player for the Association, both at juniors and senior level, Stothard is passionate about the new role and is looking forward to combining his Big V commitments to the VJBL program.

Coaches Needed!

Latrobe City Energy is seeking to expand the number of teams representing Gippsland in the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) in 2014 and has recently called for expressions of interest from potential Coaches.

Club President, David Roberts said that currently Energy has 6 teams across U14, U16 and U18 age groups and is seeking to have U12s if interest exists as well as look at second teams in a number of age groups.

'We know that exposing players to regular training and high level competition has the best impact on a player’s skill development' Roberts said.

'VJBL offers a graded competition where every week teams are challenged on the court. Energy provides not only an opportunity to play in this league, but to do so by training locally and playing home games here.’

'This year we have had two teams make the Victorian Champion level, with the U14 Girls maintaining a spot in the top 10 teams in the state, while the U16 girls have dropped to Championship Reserve and are in the top 20 teams in the State for their age group'. Continued Roberts

‘Both these teams have achieved a great deal given the travel across the State to compete every week. Over 100 teams compete in each VJBL age group across 10 divisions and include big Associations like Bendigo, Geelong, Dandenong, Bulleen, Nunawading to name a few’

'Our aim is to have more players playing in more teams and to increase the benefited offered to the development of basketball in Gippsland. These players lift the competition when they return to their squads and domestic teams and we have had some great success with a number of junior players being selected for State duties over the last few years' Roberts said.

Coaches interested in being part of our growth are encouraged to express their interest now. Applications close on June 28 and appointments will be made over the coming weeks.

'We are also looking to recruit a Director of Coaching who will support and develop our coaches. We believe that we need a strong focus on coach development as it is these people that build the skills and nurture the growth of our juniors, both as basketball players and as community members'. Roberts said.

All position descriptions can be found here and enquires can be directed to Andrew Ware on 0418 227 803 or David Roberts on 0468 431 731.

Energy goes Pink

On May 11, Latrobe City Energy will host our regular Big V Games in support of local breast cancer survivors and Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).

On the night, we will also be acknowledging Mothers Day and the great work mums do in supporting our club and most importantly our players. Without our mums, many of us would not have the opportunity to play sport and we recognise the great work they to do in supporting us all.

The night will start at 6pm when our Women take on Camberwell followed by the Men at 8pm. Every opportunity we have we will be running fundraising games and activities and we encourage you to bring some gold coins to join in.

Nearly everyone in the local community knows someone affected by breast cancer and it is a great opportunity for our club to support this great cause.

Our players will be wearing PINK shoelaces and for one night only we encourage you to wear PINK over our usual ORANGE! If you can, wear both! It is not about fashion and we can deal with the color clash for one night to benefit a worthy cause.

Funds raised during the night will directly assist BCNA to support Australians personally affected by breast cancer.

Energy spark in finals campaign!

Game 1 of the Big V Division 1 Finals will see Latrobe City Energy take on Altona at home in Traralgon on Saturday night, tip off at 7pm!

Unbelievably, at the end of this game one of these highly rated teams will no longer be in the running for this year's title.

Last time these teams met was at Drouin in round 16 and Energy had the upper hand defeating Altona, 63 to 51.  Stand outs for Energy were Jamilee Pearce with 17 points and 5 assists while Taylor Brouns had her best game of the season with 12 points, 7 assists and 11 rebounds.  Tarnarly Hood and Carly Mullen-Biancone assisted with 12 and 11 respectively.

For Altona, it was WNBL player Bridgitte Ardossi who lead the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds while their other tall, Louise Johnston had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Energy shot a reasonably 34.8% while Altona struggled to find an outside shot, with an overall shooting percentage of 25.4%.

This week will surely be the battle of the talls and whether Energy can shut down Ardossi (18.5ppg and 10.2 rpg) & Johnson (12.2ppg and 7.1rpg) while preventing Altona from finding their outside range.

Jamilee Pearce (averaging 16.9ppg & 11.6rpg) will need to lead the charge and will be assisted by sibling and rising star Danni Pearce (16.6ppg & 5.8rpg) who may be the secret weapon this week as this will be her first match up against the Gators.

This is a team sport and Energy is united, fired up and very ready to take on the might of Altona!  Game on!

Get out and support the Energy Women on Saturday August 4, 2012, 7pm at Latrobe Leisure Traralgon.
