VJBL is the Victorian Junior Basketbal League.

The VJBL is played on a Friday evening at venues across the State. Each week approximately 1017 teams participate in the competition which equates to about 507 games on 150 courts. The VJBL is arguably the largest competition of its kind, offering a graduated system of junior basketball competition giving opportunities for players to play against the best basketball players in the state.

VJBL competitions include:

• Victorian Junior State Championship (“VC”)

• Victorian Junior Basketball League (Division 1, 2, 3 & 4)

• Eastern Qualifying regional competition.

Season Games within the VJBL structure are played for about 40 weeks of the year commencing approximately early-mid November and going through to late September the following year.

Latrobe City Energy represents the broader Gippsland region in the VJBL .

Energy players are drawn from across Gippsland and play domestic and squad for a range of associations.

The playing standard in VJBL is higher than domestic and most squad tournaments and provides a weekly fixtured game.

Energy teams compete against similar representative teams from other basketball associations around Victoria, e.g. Melbourne Tigers, Eltham Wildcats, Nunawading Spectres, Geelong Cats, Bendigo Braves, Altona Gators to name some familiar ones. Energy players do not leave their Domestic or Squad teams. Energy is an additional opportunity for players. Energy develops the skills to compete in a better standard of basketball competition, which brings higher self esteem, new pleasures of achievement and, importantly, new friendships.

The Energy program provides skills development, court strategy and physical fitness. Combined with playing consistently at a higher level, this assists young people become better and more confident players.
