The Etobicoke Kangaroos have stormed into their 3rd consectitive OAFL Grand Final with 54 point victory over the Central Blues in Sundays OAFL 1st Preliminary Final. They will now face their arch rivals the Toronto Eagles for the 3rd straight year in the end of season classic to be played on Saturday October 3rd at 2pm at the Humber North ground at the Humber North College campus>
On a cool, overcast day the Kangaroos arrived at Humber South with one thing in mind, and that was not to take this game lightly against a team with their tails up that beat a mediocre Toronto Dingoes the weekend before. The Roos were very focused on the task at hand and it showed with a very tug of war first quarter. Both teams trying to find their feet. It was the Blues who found theirs first slotting the first goal. The Roos kicked into gear starting to move the ball like they had all year. The Half back line of Jacobs, Bates and JR were setting up the likes of Travis and Emile to put the Roos in front at quarter time by two points. Dave Tumber was superb at ground level finding himself having a lot of time with the football and being able to direct traffic in a very scrappy first quarter
1st: 1.3.9 1.1.7
After some words from coach Emile the Humber South boys turned it on in the second quarter. The midfield of Paterson, Lombardini and Russo started working the ball forward with ease giving guys like Colin Mark and Murray Lovett chances at goal. Colin Mark capped off a great second term with a superb goal on the run. The defence held strong and the back up from the centres and wings really helped the already strong back line of the Roos. Chet Long was a one man wrecking crew shutting down their major guys like Anderson and Macumber when they came forward. Adam Jacobs was showing why he was named in the All star team with a great display of punching and marking. The Roos piled on 4 goals for the term.
2nd: 5.9.39 1.2.8
The third quarter saw the Roos keep their foot on the pedal. Travis Mackenzie was hitting his straps marking everything that came his way. Emile was his wiley self causing headaches for the Blues backline. The centre clearances were being dominated by the Roos who were able to kick two quick goals in 1 minute. Attack after attack was being mounted on the Roos backline but easily repelled by the strong back 6. Morgan Kress came on and shut down their tall options while the ever improving Logan Chambers ran the ball out at will. Phil Russo was having tagging problems but didn’t phase him as cleared ball after ball. The pressure from the Roos mounted as they went hard at the ball all day which left the Blues wondering. Luke and Adam had their usual hard at the ball, in and under mentality. No passengers for the Roos this day
3rd: 8.13.61 1.3.9
The Fourth quarter the Roos were looking to drive a nail into the coffin of the blues, but could not seem kick the goals. Once again it was a high behinds to goals ratio for the Roos. Andrew Ford continued his already great season on the wing picking up lots of possessions and Brad Muller relished his role up forward setting up plays and tackling hard. Sam Bates continued to run a muck in the backline with some pin point kicking. It was a very back and forth quarter with no teams taking advantage of their scoring opportunities and that’s how it played out
