In what has been an incredible season for the Hamilton Wildcats AFC as far as Club achievements, we are pleased to announce yet another individual milestone by one of our most passionate team members. Kris "Killer" McKillop will play in his 50th OAFL game this coming weekend when the Wildcats hit the Nation's Capital to face the Ottawa Swans on Saturday, August 27th/11.
After bursting onto the OAFL scene only 4 short seasons ago, Kris has been an extremely solid addition to a Wildcat Club already known for their hard-nosed brand of footy. "Killer" lived up to his nickname from the first time he crossed the white line; battling hard all over the ground, doing whatever it took to outwork his tagger(s) and driving his opponents hard into the turf with reckless abandon. Over the years, Kris has become one of the most feared players in the OAFL due to bone jarring tackles & strong shepherds, as well as improving his ball skills at a meteoric pace no matter where he's been placed on the field. He started his rookie season roaming the Hamilton backline playing in both pockets as well as fullback for several games, but due to his infectious desire to learn all aspects of the game, he's never turned down an opportunity to try his hand in any of the 18 spots around the oval and really has come into his own playing in the "guts". In addition to his passion for learning the ins and outs of this great sport, Kris has worked tirelessly on improving his own personal fitness, and has transformed himself into one of the most physically impressive players on our Club. He along with Club veteran Charles Thompson have played a huge role in the team's off-season fitness training over the last couple of seasons, creating indoor bootcamp sessions, and "Killer" has continued these types of sessions into the regular season by organizing Tuesday night trainings which include TRX & kettlebell circuits, as well as functional strength & conditioning programs. This attention to detail has not only helped Kris to improve his own personal performance in all aspects of his game but definitely made everyone on the Club around him better. There's not much more that anyone could ask of a teammate, and we here at the Club are definitely proud to have him on our side of the footy. He shows up to 99% of all training sessions whether healthy or carrying injury, he supports the Club off the field helping out at many of our pre & post season functions, and not even the 500 pound branch of a 100 year old tree can keep him from pulling on the "yellow & black". (*Kris was struck by a falling branch during a storm prior to our Round #4 game in Guelph v the High Park Demons, and only missed 2 games after being rushed to the hospital in an incident that could have taken his life.)
Everyone here at the Hamilton Wildcats AFC would like to congratulate Kris on hitting such an impressive career milestone, and if his efforts over the first 4 years are any indictation of his future with the Club and in the OAFL; we absolutely cannot wait to see what he'll do over the next 5+ seasons!!! Cheers mate.
