Insurance
The Eastern Football League in conjunction with BJS Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd, the league’s insurance broker and risk adviser, has arranged insurance coverage for Surrey Park Football Club players, officials, coaches and voluntary workers.
The program provides competitively broad protection across the following areas:

Group Personal Accident cover for Capital Benefits, Non Medicare Medical Expenses and Loss of Income

NB: While Surrey Park Football Club has purchased the highest possible cover under this policy, it should be considered as marginally above entry level – we strongly urge all players to take out private health insurance.
Serious Injury Protocol
In the event of a serious injury to a player the following protocol will be adhered to:

Provide immediate on-field care and arrange suitable transportation (eg ambulance) to hospital.

A Surrey Park Football Club representative is to accompany the player to hospital.

Notify the next of kin and the Surrey Park Football Club President.

The Surrey Park Football Club Supervising Trainer is to complete and lodge an Injury Form.
Basic Injury Protocol
Players who suffer an injury at training or on match day should adhere to the following protocol:

Present to the Surrey Park Football Club Supervising Trainer for initial assessment and treatment.

The Surrey Park Football Club Supervising Trainer is to complete and lodge an Injury Form.

Players should seek assessment / diagnosis and treatment from an appropriate medical practitioner as soon as practicable.

Ian McFarland from Box Hill Physiotherapy will be at training each Tuesday night from 6.30 to 7.30 to assess any injuries.
Concussion Management
In the event of a Player suffering a head clash or head injury of any kind, the Player must be cleared by the trainer on duty before returning to the field of play. SPFC's trainers who are qualified in concussion management will perform a concussion test on the Player.
Should the Player fail the concussion test they cannot continue to participate in the match.
It is a Surrey Park Football Club requirement for Players that fail the concussion test to seek medical assessment prior to the Player returning to physical activity, training and / or match play.
The Player MUST provide proof of medical assessment and clearance from a medical practitioner to the Football Club trainers. Players will be ineligible to participate in training or be selected until documented proof of clearance is provided.
Major Injury Assessment – Injury Possibly Requiring Surgery
For priority assessment of a major injury call Box Hill Physiotherapy on 9899 5575 strictly before 10:00am Monday morning mentioning you are from Surrey Park Football Club. This will ensure a priority appointment with Ian that day.
Depending on the nature of your injury, Box Hill Physiotherapy will assess and may:

Refer for radiological assessment (eg X-ray / MRI)

Refer for same day surgical review*

Refer to an experienced sports doctor*
The physiotherapist that assesses you will complete and hand you an injury form which must be returned to the Head Trainer as soon as possible.
* Generally, experienced medical specialists will not see players without private health insurance – in which case players may need to wait weeks or months. Surrey Park Football Club urges all players to take out private health insurance.
Minor Injury Assessment – Injury Likely Not Requiring Surgery
For priority assessment of a major injury call Box Hill Physiotherapy on 9899 5575 strictly before 10:00am Monday morning mentioning you are from Surrey Park Football Club. This will ensure a priority appointment with Ian that day.
Alternatively, Box Hill Physiotherapy will schedule you in when convenient for you, Monday – Saturday.
Depending on the nature of your injury, Box Hill Physiotherapy will assess and may:

Refer for radiological assessment (eg X-ray / MRI)

Recommend a treatment program

Refer to an experienced sports doctor*
The physiotherapist that assesses you will complete and hand you an injury form which must be returned to the Head Trainer as soon as possible.
Player Availability & Selection
A player that is on the injury list will only be selected after consultation between the Player, Head Trainer and the team Coach / Selection Committee. As a practice the Head Trainer will consult the player, supervise any fitness testing and refer to any medical advice prior to selection. In some cases a player may be asked to furnish a doctor's certificate or note prior to being given the "all clear to play".
No player on the injury list shall be selected that has not been given an "all clear to play" from the Head Trainer.
