 “Vale” John Frawley

Everyone associated with the Upper Gully Football Club pass on their sincere sympathies to Mick Frawley and Ann Bailey on the passing of their father John aged 97 last week in Sri Lanka. There have been many members of his family involved with both the senior and junior sections of the club over many years and we pass on our sympathies to them as well.

Neville Roberts Health Update from Dave Carroll

I have been seeing Nev recently and thought members etc would like to read an update regarding his condition.
'Most of you are aware that Nev has been stuck down with serious illness throughout most of this year. He is battling 3 tumors and severe side-effects of very strong medication, including chemotherapy. Earlier in the year, following the discovery of tumors 2 & 3, Nev was placed on a clinical trial based on extraction of stem cells from his blood, harvesting these cells then injecting them back into his system in one large dose. Current indications are that the trial is proving to be a success (as measured by regular blood tests), however he far from fully recovered. He has managed to get through a huge number of associated conditions but one of the still existing side-aliments is a disorder called neuropathy which causes pain (burning sensation) to his legs and feet, making walking extremely difficult (a short walk to the shops is out of the question at the moment). He can drive but only short distances.
Nev is not one to wear his heart on his sleeve and he is not the type to seek sympathy. He would not want me to go into any detail on the horrendous pain and discomfort he has been through but one (of many) such side-effects of the cancer and treatment that springs to mind was to experience nausua 'that felt like 48 hours of non-stop motion sickness'. He really has been through hell but is on the way back - hopefully he'll be on the golf course sometime next year. The doctors have advised that the true success/outcomes of the treatment will be best assessed early in the New Year.
Should any one wish to visit or send a card - please do so (cnr Francis Cres & Peter Drv FTG). Or a call 9758 2459 / 0457230238. That would be terrific!'
