Memories from Mike Dwyer
My name is Michael Dwyer. For the past 32 years I have lived in Townsville, North Queensland, Australia. I was however born in Dunedin and along with my 3 older brothers, Geoff, Steve and Ken, all played for Northern.
My mother Dorothy Dwyer spent many years with Northern on the committee and is a life member. Norman Chidley was my coach up until we left Dunedin in 1981 where I finished in the under 10's. I continued to play up to U17's here in Australia.
I have for the past 2 years been coach, and my wife coach/manager, of my daughters U11 and now U13 Girls team in an all girls competition. We have been struggling to obtain a win but the determination of my girls sees them turn up week after week to keep trying. The interesting point is that the club we are involved with is called Northern Beaches United Football Club. Or of course for me Northern for short.. Unfortunately our club colours are predominately red with black and white, but at least still contain the black and white my family grew up with.
The reason for me contacting you was to see if there was any way of me purchasing a home team players jersey from Northern. I understand that spares are just not an option but if you are ordering more at any stage I would be happy to pay for an extra one. I would also appreciate if you had an email address for Norman Chidley as it would be great to get in contact with him.
I have attached a photo of my 2013 U13 girls team. Please feel free to share any of this email if you find it of interest to the club.
I look forward to hearing back from you soon and wish all back home every success for next season.
