Hi All,
Firstly like to apologise for no report last week, I was away from home with work & had the best of intentions to do it on Monday night but ran out of time due to work commitments. I’ll try to make sure it doesn’t happen again. we lost all 3 footy games to Woori & won all 4 Netball games.
So it was off to a cold & wet Olinda on Saturday for a season defining game for the seniors and the boys didn’t let us down with a great win that put us into 4th position on the ladder & with some surprise results we are only 1 win off 2nd spot on the ladder. Our net ball girls won 3 out of their 4 games with the only side to loose being the B Grade team & our A Grade girls demolished the Olinda girls by over 50 goals.
On a very wet & cold day the seniors game started in a physical & fast manner, with young Tom Hinds breaking the lines kicking a great goal on the run for the 1st goal of the game, you could tell very early the boys had come to play, the pressure we were putting on Olinda was enormous and the cracks we widening early and by the first break we had got out to a solid lead of 16 points kicking 4 2 = 26 to Olinda’s 1 4 = 10, in the 2nd quarter our pressure again was great, the rain belted down right through the quarter, our persistence level continued to shine for the quarter & we held Olinda goalless to lead at the main break 6 7 = 43 to Olinda 1 6 = 12, everyone was playing well in really trying conditions, our midfielders were dominating & the pressure at both ends of the ground displayed great intensity & desire, we came out after the main break and the boys just kept the foot on the pedal, Matt Dyer, Jarrod Bayliss & Justin Myers were in everything & Simon Young was marking the ball like it was a dry day across half forward, we held Olinda to 1 goal for the 3rd quarter and added 3 ourselves to extends the lead to 44 points at the last change 9 10 = 64 to Olinda 2 8 = 20, in the freezing cold with all the boys shaking and cold Jarrod asked them for another big last quarter with the target to hold Olinda goalless for the term & with relentless pressure the boys delivered an emphatic win and delivered on the coaches request running out comfortable 56 point winners, 11 12 = 78 to Olinda 2 10 = 22.
goal kickers on the day were Michael Fowkes with 3, Jarrod Bayliss with 2 (one a barrel from the centre square) & singles to Simon Young (along with 8 points) Jimmy Messis, Brendan Dickinson, Tom Hinds, Robbie Ross & Alex Wisby.
Ggood players in what was an outstanding team effort were Matt Dyer, Justin Myers, Jarrod Bayliss, Simon Young, Evan Hocking & Tom Hinds, hopefully it a sign of some good footy to come in the 6 weeks leading up to finals.
Wandin 4.2-26 6.7-43 9.10-64 11.12-78 Olinda Ferny Creek 1.4-10 1.6-12 2.8-20 2.10-22
The Reserves got jumped by Olinda in the rain & fog of the first half & just didn’t adapt to the conditions, during the first half you couldn’t see the other side of the ground the fog was that low & Olinda made the most of our poor start to hold us goalless for the first half to lead 9 5 = 59 to our 2 solitary points, coach Mark Glenn gave the boys a good old fashioned bake at the break and to the boys credit they came out and won the 3rd quarter 3 goals to 1 and were even in the last with 2 goals each, but the half time lead was too large and the boys eventually lost 5 4 = 34 to Olinda’s 12 9 = 81, there were some positive signs in the 2nd half so hopefully the boys can build on that over the coming weeks, goal kickers Paz Tauiliili with 2 & singles to Matt Lang, Brenton Morris & Darren Lang & best players were Chris Fowkes in the ruck & Brenton Morris in the midfield, with good support from Joe Napoleone, Matt Lang, Paz Tauiliili & Shaun Black.
Wandin 0.1-1 0.2-2 3.3-21 5.4-34 Olinda Ferny Creek 5.2-32 9.5-50 10.8-68 12.9-81
The Under 18’s were playing the top side in Olinda & for the first half played some good footy matching it with the other boys to only trial by 7 points at the main break, 2 2 = 14 to Olinda 3 3 = 21, the Olinda boys came out fired up and had a match defining quarter kicking 5 goals to our 1 to get out to a 35 point lead showing why they were on top of the ladder, but to our boys credit they didn’t lay down and die and actually outscored Olinda in the last quarter by 1 point but eventually lost 4 4 = 28 to Olinda 9 8 = 62 by 34 points, goal kickers were Eddie Johnson, Jake Iedema, Pat Hodgett & Cory Shalevski, better players on the day were Andre Napoleone back from school footy duties, Luke Voges marked everything across half back, Billy Lawrence, Tom Leech Hines, Anthony Molluso & Pat Hodgett.
Wandin 1.0-6 2.2-14 3.2-20 4.4-28 Olinda Ferny Creek 1.3-9 3.3-21 8.7-55 9.8-62
We have a week off this week with the VCFL game on and it’s a pleasure to let you all know the 3 boys from the club have made the Victorian team in Jarrod Bayliss, Michael Fowkes & Justin Myers, their playing at Geelong against a representative side from the Victorian Amateurs so hopefully the boys will all do well in representing the club & league, if I get any info on the game I’ll let you all know next week how they went.
Regards
Rob Bayliss
