1967 PREMIERSHIP REUNION
“ A wonderful 50th anniversary reunion of the UTFC 1967 Senior Premiership was held on Sat 29th July 2017 with over 100 past and current players, supporters and Committee persons in attendance.
1967 Senior coach Neil Edwards and his wife Joan travelled down from Echuca for the day and it was just like the days of old, when Neil spoke you could hear a pin drop and his strong voice and no nonsense style is still very evident.
It was also great that Marj Haines, wife of the late Bill Haines and Dorothy and Shaun Hodge, wife and son of the late Don Hodge were also in attendance !
Alan Stephens, who was clearly best on ground in the 1967 Grand Final as a 20 year old, gave his version of events and then wandered around the room “interviewing” others team members Errol Campbell, Peter Stephens and Kevin Sonogan.
1967 Club Secretary Terry Cormack told of the year in general and how enigmatic forward Stan Porter kicked 4 goals in the last 12 minutes in the 3rd term to have both Upwey-Tecoma and Woori Yallock level at ¾ time in what went on to become the closest ever Senior Grand Final in the history of the League, with the final scores being
Upwey- Tecoma 14.13- 97 defeating Woori Yallock 14.10 – 94.
A great day was had by all and lots of great times relived during a very enjoyable afternoon.”
