24.06.17 v BERRIGAN
It was a mixed bag of wins and losses against Strathy last week at home, hopefully we can pull off a few more wins today. Good luck to everyone today.
Milestones - Congratulations to Andy Arthur on playing his 50th reserves game last week against Strathy.
This week Tim Brunskill plays his 100th reserves game. Tim is a great player for the club that is not scared of having a fair dinkum crack. This milestone has taken Tim awhile to get to as he has been set back with a couple of major knee injuries. A great effort Tim and we hope to see many more games from you yet.
Another great milestone from one of our juniors' now playing senior football, our assistant coach Chris Patten plays his 150th club game. Chris has played 78 - U14's, 26 - U17's, 2 - reserves and 42 senior games. Chris has won numerous awards with the club over the years. Well done Chris and we hope there are plenty more yet to come.
Tonight it's back to the Terminus Hotel for our awards. Let's get behind this match day sponsor once again and make an effort to show them our support.
Under 14's - With the exception of a scrappy 2nd quarter, the Young Bloods played some terrific team footy last Saturday against the Young Dogs. Doing the hard 1% stuff well and getting numbers to the contest were the highlights and was backed up with some great ball use throughout the game.
Under 17's - Well done to the boys on a great win. Fantastic game from all the boys, they all played their part in what was a great team effort. Great games from Reilly, Jesse B, Tom and Jock. The boys have been working hard on the training track and now they are getting results.
Reserves - The Magoo's headed into the game against one of the flag favourites and battled hard. For the second game in a row the opposition got a significant jump kicking 6 goals in the first 13 minutes. To their credit the Bloods second eighteen outscored their more fancied opponents 3 goals to 1. The last three quarters were a more respectable 11 goals to 3. We need to get off to better starts if we are to be competitive.
Seniors - In a season defining game, the Bloods were playing to strengthen claims for a finals spot and the opportunity to compete to gain a double chance.
The first quarter was a real arm wrestle with both teams showing nerves by missing some makeable scoring opportunities, with the Dogs leading by 6 points at the first change.
The second quarter turned out to be the turning point for the game with Strathy taking command kicking 5 goals 4 to the Bloods solitary goal and take a 22 point lead into the second half.
The second half was a beauty with Strathy looking to be in control but Toc never gave up and actually won the second half to go down gallantly by 21 points.
