12.08.17 v MATHOURA
Well this is the last of our home and away games and time to prepare for finals. As it looks we will be represented by quite a few teams this year which is great for the club. Now as a club we need to get behind everyone and show our support for finals success. We have been having great meals on Thursday nights, so come down to the club and become involved as we chase those elusive flags. We had a successful AGM last week and now have our new executive and committee to lead the club into 2018. Our new executive is: Malcolm Hart - President, Hiram Garlick and Leah Ryan - Vice Presidents, Deb Garlick - Secretary, Carly Garlick - Treasurer, and our committee consists of: Melissa Herezo, Lachlan McDonald, Phil Nunn, Ollie Rennie, Craig Stewart, Jacinta Vernon and Matt Wooden. Many thanks to our outgoing committee.
Under 14's - The Junior Bloods faced their biggest challenge playing the second placed Rovers last week and to their credit, after facing some genuine pressure early in the game the boys responded beautifully. The hard thing like their tackling, chasing and harassing caused the turnovers that they took advantage of more often than not.
Under 17's - The boys got off to a good start but dropped away in the second half. The boys in the middle worked hard all day, their run and carry through the middle was good. Tom, Jesse B and Mitchell R dominated through the middle. Tyrone and Jesse C's work was good in the backline, James really stepped it up, thanks to the supporting crowd. Thanks to the Under 14 boys that fill in every week for us, they do a fantastic job. Huge game this week against Mathoura boys, it's a MUST win game to make finals. Best of luck boys, believe in yourselves because you have proven you are capable to match it with the league leaders.
Reserves - The Magoos took to the field against a good opposition undermanned but put up a wonderful effort. The game begun evenly before the Rovers slammed on three quick goals to take a 21-point 1st quarter lead. The guys battled with Tim Brunskill and Corey Herezo defending hard denying Deni any easy goals. New to the mid-field Ben Herezo played well with Jeremy Rush taking the game on and causing some headaches for the opposition. The boys were one down for the entire second half and were able to limit the Rovers to 5 goals for the remainder of the game. Under 17s player Jesse Barker played well alongside Jordan Poynton and Glyn Matters, who all tried hard.
Seniors - The Bloods after two great performances went into the game against the Rovers knowing they would come to play. The game turned into a real slog with the ball moving backwards and forwards between the sides forward fifty arcs. The first quarter was dominated by the Rovers, but for some inaccuracy in front of goal could have had a substantial lead but ended the period with a 9-point advantage. The Bloods fought back hard in the second with a chance to push out to a more solid lead but both defenses were able to hold well under pressure. The Bloods by 4 points at the main break. The second half was a close hard contested brand of footy with neither team able to break away. The 3rd stanza was tight with both teams managing 3 goals 2 behinds for the quarter leaving Toc 4 points to the good. Deni took control of the game with a couple of early goals in the last quarter with Toc having some opportunities late but not able to convert. The Rovers too good winning by 7 points. Dane Maxwell was brilliant and tried hard along with Zeke Flanagan and Paddy O'Brien who have all had consistent seasons. Other players to feature well were Ollie Rennie, skipper Sean Logie and Darren Atkinson.
