22.07.17 v BLIGHTY
Another week down and only four rounds to go. Now we really need to put in the hard yards to make the season all worth it. We had a mixed bag of results over at Picola last week. Hopefully we can come away today with a few more wins. See you all after the game upstairs for the results and awards.
Under 14'S - The Toc boys were back to their best last week, disciplined, applying consistent pressure and using the ball well. Zander, Bailey and Tom dominated the stoppages. Chase, Hayden and Connor reading the play beautifully and the big fella Blair had a cracker on his 50th. Play the way you train, train hard.
Under 17'S - What a great game, so close, well done boys. Dylan Maxwell, Mitchell Reilly, Jesse Colston and Reilly Rennick were our best players for the day. To go down by one point is disappointing and hurts, but if we keep working hard and as a group the results will come. Back to it this week boys and let's turn around our result from last week.
Reserves - The first quarter again proved to be our worst for the game. This was the 6th time this year that this has happened. Picola managed to capitalize on all their first quarter opportunities to boot six goals straight to take a six goal lead into the first break. The Bloods to their credit hit back hard with some wonderful tackling and kept the ladder leaders to one second quarter goal. The second half was hotly contested footy with the Blues having to battle hard for any scoring opportunities. The top team were too good for a hard working Bloods outfit. Best were Paul Quick, the Herezo Brothers battled manfully whilst Charlie Kelly, Tim Brunskill and Glyn Matters also tried hard.
Seniors - In a match against the top side the boys were found wanting. The opposition were at their best and made it hard for the Bloods to defend. The first quarter was an even affair with both teams probing for a weakness. A couple of late goals to the Blues gave them a two goal 1st quarter lead.
The second quarter was a tightly contested contest with Picola converting their opportunities much easier with the Bloods working hard for any score. Still four goals down at the main break was not the end of the world.
The second half was not the time to deliver our worst half of footy for the season, but as we did just that the top side rammed home four goals to one to take a commanding three quarter time lead. The last quarter was a disaster as the Blues refused to take their foot off the pedal and booted eight goals to one to deliver our worst loss for the season. Skipper Sean Logie and Zeke Flanagan tried hard and were the best for the Bloods with Scott Baldwin, Jacob Hore, Dizza Flanagan and Darren Atkinson trying hard. A critical game looms this week and a better performance will be required.
