It was Past Players Day at Galvin Park and it was great to see so many of the past champions back to look over the future of the club both on and off the ground. It was also Pink Day and the place looked splendid in a sea of pink in the rooms as the girls did a Pink afternoon tea to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Network. They saw a great game with Centrals running out winners by 2 points and it was a nail biter right to the very end. The game started off with a very strong North wind and the first two quarters the side kicking with the wind held a firm advantage but after half time the wind died and both sides were able to move the ball to both ends of the ground. With Centrals holding a good lead at half time and again at the last break it looked as if the Past Players would see a good win but to Corio’s credit they fought out the game right to the end even making Centrals look flat footed and got back to within two points with the siren beating them in the end.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 13.16 – 94 to Corio 13.14 - 92
Goal Kickers:- D Lawson 3, L Cachia 2, J Ramsay 2, T Sapountzis 2, K Basile, J Cailes, K Butty & C Wilson 1 each.
Best Players:- J Ramsay, D Boyd, T Nyawela, C Koutzamanis, B Wilson & D Lawson.
The Reserves even though not winning are getting closer each week to that elusive 4 points and we saw further improvement in many of the players in this game. The strong North wind did not help with the players disposal which saw many turnovers from both sides.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 10.3 – 63 to Corio 10.16 – 76
Goal Kickers:- L Gibbs 2, C Hockins 2, L Weedon 2, J Drohomerecki, J Fraser, B Knee & J Freeman 1 each.
Best Players:- M Deluca, J Fraser, J Wighton, M Korenj, B Knee & C Hockins.
