Centrals faced off against Thomson at Galvin Park on the long weekend and this was always going to be an important game for both clubs. Thomson to keep in touch with the final five and Centrals needing to show some continual improvement. Thomson got the win they needed Centrals played much better so both clubs got something out of the game, but Centrals would have been disappointed as it could have gone either way except for a couple of poor disposals resulting in costly turnovers and umpire interpretations on some frees. Both sides had a strong focal forward with Centrals Jason Butty kicking 6 and Thomsons full forward the same amount but Thomsons spread of goal kickers running down the ground was probably the difference in the end. Centrals beaten in the centre early slowly overcame this shortfall in their game in the second half and their tackling was much better as their preparedness to get to the contest improved as the game went on. The half back line was always under pressure but held up well with assistance from Shane Weatherly, Matt Walson, Phil Jones and Chris Koutzamanis. Overall a loss but the improvement is there and the side will be ready for next week against the Lions.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 12.6 - 78 to Thomson 15.7 - 97
Goal Kickers:- J Butty 6, K Butty 4, S Confait & M Walson 1 each.
Best Players:- J Butty, P Jones, D Boyd, M Walson, L Salmond & K Butty.
The Reserves continued their improvement against a much bigger Thomson side as the younger players in Adrian Anderson, Scott Lynch and Luke Gibbs assisted by some return of experience in David Todaro, Jack Cailes, Luke Simpson and Callan Novenic made sure Centrals got the win they deserved. Even though being down for most of the day a four goal last quarter and Luke Cachia up forward was the difference between the sides.
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 12.13 – 85 to Thomson 9.6 – 60
Goal Kickers:- L Cachia 5, D Todaro 3, J Cailes, M Deluca, J Vailmuthu & C Novenic 1 each.
Best Players:- L Cachia, C Novinec, N Beasley, L Gibbs, S Lynch, D Todaro & S Rathbone.
The Colts faced off against ladder leaders St Josephs who have not been beaten and both sides put on a display worthy of a final really as St Josephs led for most of the game but just could not hold out the Centrals boys desperate for a win at home. To make the win even better was the inclusion of four U 16s into the side as top up players and they boys certainly acquitted themselves really well with young Brad Carlton named BOG.
The boys will have some belief in themselves now and will look forward to the season ahead as they grow in their football and as a team
Final Scores:- Werribee Centrals 11.5 – 71 to Thomson 7.16 – 58
Goal Kickers:- J Sutton 4, D Skinner 3, L Williams 2, J Leggeri & S Polden 1 each.
Best Players:- B Carlton, J leggeri, H Kilby, B Taylor, J Fletcher & J Despott.
