NEWTOWN & Chilwell's 11-game winning streak devastatingly came to an end in the final seconds in their top of the table clash against South Barwon after a Jarrod McCorkell desperate soccer-styled attempt at goal was touched on the last line of defence.

The Eagles entered the match with some late changes in their backline including the omission of playing coach Jacob Spolding who ruled himself out of the side 20 minutes before the first bounce.

"I'm not to quite sure how serious the injury is at this stage," Spolding said.

"I simply hurt myself while running through our warm up around the lower leg (calf and achilles area) which meant we had to bring in Luke Kermond who had just played three quarters in the reserves game."

Earlier in the morning Ryan Gamble had to pull out of the side because of general soreness and was replaced by Daniel Orr.

South Barwon started the game well with the aid of a strong wind as key forward Clinton Wells kicked four goals in the space of 15 minutes to set the Swans alight.

"They started really well, obviously Clinton Wells kicked four of their first five goals and even when Matthew Grant contested every time the ball was up for grabs Wellsy would just go back and convert," Spolding said.

"We weren't happy with the way we started but I thought from the second quarter onwards we were able to win the footy and get it in forward and cause them a few headaches." Spolding said
