“We Are The Team From Tyntynder…”
As we move into the 2016 football / netball season, we take the time to reflect back on another great year. Our valued volunteers worked hard for the club giving selflessly of their time in world where ever increasing governance and regulation sees “not for profit” sporting clubs being run more and more like a “business”.
Our history shows the club owes its existence to a dedicated group of Red, White and Blue volunteers and we value each and every one of them. To our current volunteer workforce, Licky, Russell, Dawn, Elaine, Matt, Margy, Jen, Jeanette, Mal, Max, Kristy, Rusty, Brenno, Neil and our photographer Gretta just to name a few - thank you. What you do doesn’t go unnoticed.
As always we acknowledge our umpires and match day officials - we couldn’t do it without you. Of special mention are club volunteers Rob Jager, our loyal and dedicated scoreboard operator who goes about the business of scoring three games every home game without any fuss and, Barry Ilsley who umpired the “Ressies” each week this season. We appreciate what you and others do for the club. To those who take a turn in the canteen or make themselves available for a “gate roster” or to umpire or wave flags for a junior game, it all helps the wheels on the red, white and blue “Bulldog Bus” keep turning.
Club and League Legend Kelvin “Licky” Worner was announced our 2015 “Number One Ticket Holder” and set the tone for a great year. Congratulations to our 2015 “Club Person Of The Year”, Anthony “Maxie” Carroll who amongst other things is our volunteer coordinator and is well known for his tireless work around the club and for his passion for junior football development.
Matt Edwards, Roger Schifferle, Veronica Ralph, Nicole Hawkins, Kristy Kelly and Barry Benfield were awarded our “2015 Good Sports” awards. We thank these people who, amongst others in the club, are dedicated to creating a safe and friendly environment that is welcoming to everyone. We are surrounded by good people who give selflessly of their time to ensure the continued sustainability of our club and the development of our kids, and we should be very proud.
A highlight was the awarding of Life Membership to Sharon Denham whose long and prestigious list of achievements around the club over many years is well documented. Presented by current Life member Roey Bice in front of a huge senior presentation night crowd and, to a thunderous round of applause, Sharon is a fitting recipient of Tyntynder’s highest accolade. As we offer her our congratulations we also note Sharon coached two teams to premierships this season including her own (B Grade playing coach). Great job “Holli”
The very welcome return of home grown son Reece Collins kicked off our season and we knew it was going to be a great year. Ably backed up by senior assistant coach and another “home growner” Brock Storer, the senior team came from being “cellar dwellers” in 2014 to just missing out on playing finals this year. Congratulations to Dave Andrivon who after another great season was awarded the TFNC Senior Best & Fairest award. Luke Jones was named runner up after a stellar season that also saw him take home the "Golden Fist" best backman trophy. 2016 looks like being just as exciting.
Often described as the “backbone” of a club our “Twos” had a ball and showed our young footballers another side of the game. Coming from last place in 2014 to be 2015 Premiers was a mighty effort. Well done to all who played a part - roll on 2016. Congrats to Club & League B&F Mark Corrie - 'awesome effort Coz. ‘Nice to see Coach Joe Bibby hanging in there long enough and, after some very lean years to be finally rewarded with a Flag.
We thank Leanne, Em, Sharon, Georgia for a great season that saw us take home three Netball Premiership Shields. These girls work tirelessly to make the smooth running of the home and away season look effortless – we all know that it is far from that, is often “just plain hard work” and we thank them for all that they do. Anne once again did a wonderful job coordinating and developing our umpires and, in what was a big year for Sharon Denham we congratulate her on attaining her “C Grade” Umpiring Badge. We were very proud when Tess Denham won the CMFNL U19 Distinction Award, Nicole Featherby was announced “CMFNL Badged Umpire of the Year” and, awesome U13 netballer Maddi White made it two CMFNL B&Fs in a row. Elvie Kelly Britten was a worthy winner of our A Grade Best & Fairest trophy and we look forward to the next exciting phase of her netballing career Great stuff Girls.
Thanks to Mick, Elaine and the junior coaches and managers who ensured our junior footballers kept their heads up over what was a pretty tough season. Next year looks like being a little easier for the young Pups.
Zoe Spence Benfield, Jack Hickmott, Jack Woodward and Kelsey Rowe were our 2015 Blue Ribbon Foundation Spirit of Football and Netball Awards recipients with Kelsey going on to be awarded the prestigious 2015 “CMFNL Blue Ribbon Netballer of the Year” award at CMFNL Presentation Night. These young people are our future leaders and we salute them.
In line with the Tyntynder Football Netball Club “vision”, we worked had to create a fun, safe and competitive sporting environment and we are seeing the rewards.
The Tyntynder run “Emmetts Pre Season Night” series was again a huge success with thirteen teams from across three football netball leagues competing over three consecutive Friday nights in the lead up to the season proper. Geoff Hickmott again took on the role of coordinating this event and under his guidance and passion has seen it grow to now include a night netball competition. The series saw us “give back to our community” with 100% of series gate takings being donated to three local charities (MS, Chances For Children and, local Cystic Fibrosis ambassador Harry Coffey’s “Helping Hands Program”). Well done to Hick and his band of helpers.

As I step down from the role of Club President I would like to thank my family, past Presidents Mal Devereux and Russel Coburn for their guidance and the members of the Tyntynder Football Netball Club General Committee for their unwavering support over the past three years. To Tim who backed up when I was away, to Crowey and team who took charge of the Junior Footballers, to Leanne who guided the Netballers– well done on a great year and I wish you all the very best for a successful 2016.
Of special mention is the tireless dedication of the ‘other two women in my life’. I speak of our Treasurer Sandra Rowe and our Secretary Jan Hickmott.
Sandra, who steps down after five years in the role, has been instrumental in bringing together the income streams of Football, Netball and Junior Football under the one umbrella. The role of Treasurer is voluntary, huge and unpaid. In time there is no doubt as governance , regulation and accountability increases, we will see this role shared between more than one person and it is more than likely this will eventually become a ‘paid” position. No one would know just how many hours Sandra has dedicated to the Tyntynder Football Netball Club and, how many sleepless nights she has had in this time.
Jan, who is also stepping down from the Secretary role, has also worked tirelessly over the past two years ensuring our Club is well positioned to cope with the demands being placed upon us by the CMFNL and AFL Victoria. She has been the driving force in developing our ‘Strategic Plan”, enhancing our ‘Good Sports Club’ membership and supporting the committee to lift our ‘AFL Quality Club Accreditation’ to silver level. Thank you to Sandra and Jan, your loyalty and dedication to the Club have been noted and appreciated.
Congratulations to Michael Crowe who was elected Club President at the 2015 AGM. Surrounded by a supportive and revitalised committee, all indications are that 2016 will bigger and better on and off the football and netball sporting arenas
Looking forward to seeing you all around the club next year
Paul Morrison President Tyntynder Football Netball Club (2013, 2014, 2015)
