Andrej Donlagic to join Friendship Games in China

One East Perth Eagles' WABL Player is set to represent WA at the 2013 Friendship Games to be held in Shanghai this month.

Andrej Donlagic has been selected as part of the team and will be participating in the basketball component.

The Friendship Games is a long term reciprocal sporting exchange between WA and Shanghai whereby 13-15 year olds participate against the opposing country in swimming, basketball and athletics. The exchange gives young sports enthusiasts the opportunity to compete and train internationally whilst also soaking up the culture of another country.
Held in alternating countries each year, 2013 will see a 60+ team from WA travel to Shanghai from the 6th to the 16th of October. Between competitions the team will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of sightseeing excursions and cultural events.

East Perth Eagles wish Andre well in the games and to enjoy the sights.

WA Basketball athletes depart on Sunday for Shanghai, China to participate in the Friendship Games.

Perth Wildcats Legend and CEO of RV Sport, Andrew Vlahov, is accompanying a group of 45 athletes to compete in the Friendship Games 2013.  The Friendship Games was founded by Andrew in conjunction with the Shanghai Sports Bureau. The concept behind it was to have an international exchange between Western Australian athletes and athletes from Shanghai. This year it will take place between 6-15 October 2013 in Shanghai.

This event is the reciprocal visit by WA athletes as part of the arrangement between Shanghai Junior Physical Training Administration Centre, under invitation and direction from the Shanghai Sports Bureau.   Targeted at the young sporting community of Western Australia, this offer of an international exchange has been co-ordinated by RV Sport. The targeted age group is 13 to 17 year olds that are selected by the respective state organisations to participate.  The sports that will be involved in this event will include Track and Field, Swimming and Basketball. A team of female Australian Indigenous basketball players will also participate in this year’s event.

The Friendship Games provides the young athletes of Western Australia an opportunity to compete internationally in China.  It provides access to foreign players, coaches and officials for engagement within sport and culture.   The touring group are very thankful for the support of DSR, Atlas Iron, The Global Good Foundation and Karijini Civil and Mining.

Basketball WA High Performance Manager Brett Coxsedge is excited about accompanying the touring group.

“The Friendship Games is a great initiative to provide our athletes with some International touring and competition experience. Our athletes will have the opportunity to train with the Chinese athletes and coaches and then play a number of games. The Tour will also allow our athletes to experience a different culture to that in Australia.”
