The Under 11 Division 2 Women Team were victorious in the Grand Final beating  the Perry Lakes Hawks 27 to 12 and the Game MVP was East Perth Eagles’ Madison Alone.

During the Pool games, the Eagles Women won all four of their Pool 2 games in great style.

In the Semi-Final against the second placed team from Pool 1, they defeated the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 31 to 0.

In the Grand Final the Eagles Women got on a roll early with playing great defense and creating easy transition baskets. The players were relentless on the defensive end, keeping the Hawks to just 4 points in the first half. Brooke Rebel was solid under the ring, taking numerous rebounds and challenging the Hawks’ attack, with great support from Madison, Indiana Edman and Charlotte Cooke.  With a number of smaller players on the team, great half court pressure to slow the Hawks’ attack  by Imogen Barwick, Izzy Etherington and Jade Sauta proved very successful, with numerous steals and forced turnovers.

On the offensive end, the score board kept ticking over consistently, with the team running the floor and sharing the ball around. Madison was running the fast break to perfection going past two or three defenders at times keeping the scorers busy. Both Brooke and Indiana finished off some great drives to the basket to put the result beyond doubt. A great effort by the girls to play a great team game particularly with our two youngest girls, Teagan Nash and Sabrina Sparks, and Emma Di Guiseppi all getting involved and keeping the team momentum going.

In the end, the girls played great team basketball all weekend and the result speaks for itself. It was a great learning experience for those who played in their first State Championships, but  most importantly, all the girls had fun over the weekend!

Under 11 Men

The U11 boys East Perth Eagles development squad played in the State Championships at Perry Lakes on 1st and 2nd of December. The team played with skill and discipline and were highly competitive.

We played Divsion 2, and won 3 out of 5 of our games.

Our first game was fast and furious against Willeton 1, coached by Roosevelt Williams, the squads previous coach, we went down by 6. We then won games against Stirling Senators, Wanneroo Wolves and Cockburn Cougars. In the fifth game we played Eaton Basketball Association and were very even in the first half but tired in the second half to be beaten by a better side.  We only just missed out on making it to the Semi Finals. Eaton ended up narrowly losing the Grand Final to Willeton 2.

The boys had a lot of fun and experienced the challenge and excitement at performing and winning games at this high level.

Tournaments such as this are a great way to develop the players skills and teamwork, as well as sportsmanship.

The U11 squad has trained for 2 hours a week all year and this hard work paid off.

Congratulations to Chris, Michael, Nelson, Ethan, Jayden, Bodi, Tom, Isaiah, Damian and Mark on representing East Perth Eagles.

Thanks also to their parents for the commitment and support of the boys and the team.

Special thanks to team manager Monika Koblenz and to our umpire Walter.

Under 13 Women

It was very pleasing to see three new girls fitting in comfortably into the squad and enjoying their weekend.

Firstly the girls played the Perry Lake Hawks and got off to a flying start to have the scores level at half time.  Jesse Marinko, Alana Zorich and Lauren DeGaye were brilliant in the offence and Ally Collins was very strong in defence, unfortunately  the Hawks came through stronger in  the second half.

The second game was against the Willetton Tigers, the girls played hard, with newcomers Meg Humphries and Bianca Spano showing good signs in offence. Madeleine Sparks and Sophie Storey also played hard but in the end the Willetton Tigers proved too good.

The Final game could have gone either way against the Wanneroo Wolves. Alana Zorich , Jesse Marinko and Lauren DeGaye were again fierce throughout the game. Ally Collins yet again was solid under the ring. In the end the game went to the Wanneroo Wolves with the girls losing only by 10 points.  A great team effort with a lot of improvement over the weekend.

All in all it was an enjoyable, fun weekend and all the girls should hold their heads up high and be proud of themselves.

Lastly, a thank you to Rob Rebel (under 11 girls coach) for coaching the girls on Sunday at such short notice.
