President’s Report - Jamie Howden
Dear St Kilda City Members,
A big thanks for a fantastic season in 2019! To all the parents and volunteers, thankyou for the contribution you’ve made to your kids and their teams and also to the broader Club. Your effort and commitment has helped to create an outstanding season.
St Kilda City had a record number of players this year with 22 teams taking to the field. We also had a record number of girls teams in the competition, most of which made it to finals. The growth of girls footy is incredible and we consider the development of girls footy an essential and integral part of our club.
As with all seasons, we had a mix of wins, draws and losses. Ultimately, what made this year so successful was that we upheld the Club’s key values throughout. The players showed respect for their team mates, respect for the officials of the game and enjoyed their footy.
This year, we had a total of 9 teams make it to the finals. We had 6 teams make it to Grand Finals and came away with three Premierships! Two of those were girls teams and one was a Mixed Division 1 team. St Kilda City has not earned many Div 1 flags in its time, so this was particularly sweet.
It was also a challenging year for the Club in terms of resourcing, with the disruption caused by the redevelopment of the Peanut Farm and the lack of lighting at Wattie Watson. Next year, the Peanut Farm will be fresh and ready to use, which will be fantastic. We are addressing the issues of infrastructure at Wattie Watson by working hard with state and local governments, in particular to improve lighting and provide for a new scoreboard.
St Kilda City is truly the Community Club. It was wonderful how our broader community embraced, not only footy on the field but also, all the social events we had during the year. The season launch was brilliant, the winter gathering was by far the most successful fundraiser for the year, the inaugural parents v kids game was fantastic. We will support the community aspect of our Club by providing opportunities for Club-wide social events, where we can all come together to consolidate and celebrate this great community.
I’d like to thank the Committee who work tirelessly throughout the year to enable the games and training to be run seamlessly for the season. We believe that St Kilda City has the best culture in the SMJFL and will continue to promote a club where fairness, equity and respect and having fun playing footy are paramount.
The AGM will be held on Thursday, 18th October, where the Committee will present a yearbook, featuring each of the team’s trajectories this season, the Club’s financial status and plans for the future. We look forward to seeing you there and appreciate your continuing support in 2019.
Thursday, 18th October, 5pm for 5.30pm start - Annual General Meeting at Elsternwick Bowls Club followed by a 'Thankyou Celebration' for our wonderful volunteers.
