Lang Park Basketball Perpetual Trophy and Award List
These special trophies and awards have traditionally been a part of the Lang Park Basketball Club Trophy Day Ceremony. Each year after the new recipients names are added respectively to each trophy they are keep on display in the Lang Park PCYC foyer for all to view with honour.
THE VINCE HICKEY AWARD
Vince Hickey was a co-founder and the first coach of Lang Park. Vince played and coached for Brisbane and Queensland and imparted his wealth of knowledge to many now well qualified coaches throughout the State, including many at Lang Park. He was given a life membership of BBI and is remembered lovingly by having the Brisbane basketball stadium renamed to perpetuate his memory. His award is for leadership, commitment and contribution to Lang Park Basketball.. ____________________________________________________________________________________
THE BRYAN SHEPHERD MEMORIAL TROPHY FOR CLUB MANAGER OF THE YEAR
Bryan was a co-founder of Lang Park Basketball Club. He was probably the most qualified and experienced manager in basketball. He completed and conducted many courses in sports medicine and managed at all levels, including many years for the Bullets in the NBL. For these reasons he was very much sought after in both Basketball and Australian Rules.
CHRIS WULFE MEMORIAL TROPHY
Chris was only 18 years old when killed in a car accident. He was not a highly skilled basketball player, but he was a quality person, always giving 100% in everything that he did. Chris never criticized team mates or opponents. He left his mark on the world in the short time he was here.
The Chris Wullfe Memorial trophy goes to a junior boy for improvement dedication and sportsmanship.
BOB YOUNG TROPHY
Bob is one of the founding fathers of the Club and has been closely associated with the Parks activities ever since. Over the past 38 years he has been active at Club, Brisbane, Queensland and Australian levels. He was the coach of the Brisbane Bullets in the very first year Brisbane played in the NBL. There are few people who have given so much of their time, talent and love to the sport of Basketball. This trophy is awarded for the most promising junior boy.
THE PAM HAMILTON-SMITH AWARD.
Pam as a player represented the Club, Brisbane and Queensland winning Brisbane Premierships,State Championships,and became an Australian Representative. Whilst still playing, she began Coaching which led to Brisbane and Queensland appointments. Again she was successful winning many Premierships and State Championships. She further succeeded winning Australian Championships with both Under 16 and Under 18 Queensland Girls teams. Pam has given more than 30 years to coaching both Senior and Junior Women.
In 2009 Basketball Australia presented her with the Junior Coach of the Year Award.
This Award, in Pam's name, recognises the Junior Girl of the Club who has displayed improvement, dedication and sportsmanship. ____________________________________________________________________
BRONWYN MARSHALL TROPHY FOR THE MOST PROMISING JUNIOR GIRL.
Bronwyn was one of the girls coached by Pam Hamilton-Smith. She went to the Australian Institute of Sport, and then, thankfully, returned to Brisbane to play basketball which is rather unusual today. Bronwyn was an Australian and Olympic representative. _________________________________________________________________________________
THE MEGGS SMITH MEMORIAL TROPHY FOR PROVEN DEFENSIVE ABILITY.
Robert Meggs Smith was struck down by melanoma at the age of 32, having played and coached in the Club for many years.
He prided himself on playing hard defence. He was an inspirational leader on court, always gave his best, and demanded the best from his team mates whilst remaining a popular member of the Club.
IAN WATSON MEMORIAL TROPHY.
Ian Watson was appointed the first Queensland Director of Coaching after a distinguished career as an Australian Representative at World Championships and as an Olympian.His direction of Coaching in Queensland brought many innovative programs to promote and dvelop Basketball throughout the State.
The Ian Watson Memorial Trophy recognises Ian's contribution toBasketball in Queensland, and appropriately, is awarded to the player who has achieved Outstanding Ball Handling Skills.
THE LARRY SENGSTOCK AWARD
Larry is one of Australia's most highly decorated players. Three Olympics and an Australian representative from 1978 -1992 few will match his record. He and his brothers Rod and Geoff all played for the Park. The Larry Sengstock award is for the KEYWAY DOMINATOR, where Larry played his best basketball. ____________________________________________________________________________________
THE WALLY LEWIS AWARDS
Wally is a founding father of the Club, with Bob Young and Bryan Shephard. He represented Brisbane in his early years and was an Australian referee. He coached at state level in both men and women. He is an executive member of the PCYC. Wally has been a valuable member of Lang Park since its inception.

THE MARGARET FITZGERALD MEMORIAL TROPHY FOR COACH OF THE YEAR This award was instigated by the late Margaret Fitzgerald to show her appreciation to the Coaches of Lang Park. All four of Margaret's children played for Lang Park for several years.
The Club presents this award each year to honour a Coach who has had a longstanding commitment to the Club in a Coaching capacity achieving respect of players and Club members. ________________________________________________________________________________

FAMILY OF THE YEAR
The Lang Park Basketball Club welcomes all members of a family to participate in the conduct of the Club. Each year the Club acknowledges a family which has shown a high level of contribution and commitment to the Lang Park PCYC Basketball Club.
