Under 11 Championships - Lang Park Girls
Lang Park took 2 x teams to compete in the recent U11 Club Championships in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast from the 8th - 10th July 2016.
This is the second year in a row that Lang Park have supported the girls program in allowing us to take two groups and we are most grateful to our fantastic Club!
Each team was selected following trials and had a different focus:
Green - predominantly top aged and our strongest girls. Focus = to be as competitive as possible. Finished 1st - Gold Medal.
Gold - predominantly bottom aged and eligible to play again the following year. Focus = to experience tournament play and improve. Finished 4th
Both teams trained together in the lead up to the tournament.
The Green team were coached by Rebecca and Sam Mackinnon and most of the girls played the year prior (2015) in the “development team”
We played 8 games over 3 days, losing 1 game in regular tournament by 1 point to Springfield Brumbies and then faced them again in the Grand Final and came up with the win by 15 points in a fantastic game by the girls. GOLD: The Gold team were coached by Delyse Meng and James Walsh. This team was a "development team" containing predominately bottom aged girls. Most of the girls will be able to play again next year. We played 8 games over 3 days, winning 3 games in the regular round robin tournament. The girls did a fantastic job in getting to the Bronze Medal game, but unfortunately we lost to Suncoast Clippers
I would highly recommend this tournament to all families and coaches,
