BBI DRAFT OUTLINE Summer season
The 2015 Summer Season will see two new leagues, Junior Summer League for Boys on Friday nights and Girls Can Play on Saturday mornings, which will replace the traditional format. There will be a focus on player development for both newcomers and experienced basketballers. It will also allow important continuity for our junior referees, who will be able to have more hands on development. Both leagues will see the use of paper score sheets for ease of player rotation and absences and efficiency in game management.
Proposal for Junior Summer League
The Junior Summer League is to allow for a boys competition to occur due to the presence (and expected participation) of school clubs. Furthermore, to encourage a fun atmosphere where players can grab a bunch of mates and get on court and play basketball.
This 5 week Boys Competition will run on Friday nights, with hourly timeslots from 5.30pm at NAB Stadium (with potential to overflow to Brisbane Boys College if necessary).
- U11s – 5.30pm
- U13s – 6.30pm
- U15s – 7.30pm
- U17s – 8.30pm
The games will be run as a 4 on 4 competition, with 6 players per team. This will equate to $10 per player per game to cover the $60 game fee. The U15 and U17 will run full court games with a running clock for four 10 minute quarters. The U11 and U13 will play two half court games, each with two 8 minute halves on running clock. Manual scheduling is likely to be required for the U11 and U13 competition.
The association would ask that teams be nominated as a first step and then ask a parent to act as their team support. This person would assist to collect game fees, supportive coaching and prepare scoresheets where required. Clubs where teams have been put forward would be asked to assist by providing a uniform kit. We ask clubs/teams to not put together “gun” teams as this defeats the purpose of the season. Expressions of interest from individuals would also be accepted.
For individuals to register their expressions of interest please follow the link: <link>. While team nominations can be done by emailing Michael Van Dongen (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Proposal for Girls Can Play
The Girls Can Play league will show the fun, social aspect of basketball, while working on development through coaching workshops.
This 5 week season will run for Girls on Saturday mornings with two 1 and a half hour sessions. Under 11s and Under 13s will run from 9am to 10.30am and Under 15s and Under 17s will run from 10.30am to 12pm. Each session will follow a similar format of 30 minute coaching followed by two games. Each game will have two 10 minute halves, with running clock. The games will be half court 4 on 4 format.
The association is planning on providing coaches to other assistance to facilitate the sessions, with potential for special guest coaches throughout the season. The total fee would be $60 upfront for 5 weeks and a gift of a reversible singlet for Saturday sessions.
Please register your individual or team expressions of interest by the following link: <link>
We encourage all players to participate in the season, with newcomers’ welcomed and seasoned athletes’ able to get more court experience and further development. The only requirement is for players to be registered. We are hopeful that BQ will again provide for a reduced end of year registration fee to assist foster access for new players to the game.
