Eagles Legends

Sam departed the Eagles in 2008 to play professionally in Europe. With the experience of playing in the Ruck for NZ, perhaps he has a shot at making it amongst the whinging, cheating poms - then again, maybe not.

Retired: 2008
Reason for Legend status: Where to begin with Sam, he has legend written all over him. Player/coacher/manager Sam has done it all and would do it all again given the chance. Sam was also the first and only Eagle to earn higher honours and play for the NZ Falcons.
James Whitehead
James, an Eagle from the outset in 2003, is a permanent feature as a marking forward for the Eagles of Ashburton. James hails from Ashburton and his passions outside of aussie rules include performance music and competitive gardening.
