Vs Sydney City Eagles

Quake hosted Sydney City in Round 11 of the NSW Premier League and enjoyed a good day with 5 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses for 16 Club Championship points. There were some exciting moments, some upsets and plenty of action between these two traditional rivals.

 12 boys – Quake 1 (Cameron Haywood) – SCE 6

Last time these 2 sided played each other, Quake enjoyed a close win. Saturday was a different story with Quake not able to repeat that performance. After a good early start, Eagles dominated the match and run out convincing winners. Daniel Wilmering played well for Quake.

12 girls – Quake 4 (Angie Susainathan 3, Rosie Galea) – SCE 1

Our girls continue on their quest to make the play-offs. An outstanding hat trick by Angie Susainathan highlighted a good day for our young girls. They dominated from the start and never gave Sydney City a chance to get back into the match.

14 boys – Quake 5 (Anthony Haddad 3, Yasser Al-Taay, Liam McGing) – SCE 2

This was an impressive return to form by James Gilligan’s team. After a few recent disappointing performances, this was a game they needed and wanted to win. A well taken hat trick by goal scoring machine Anthony Haddad was just one highlight in this polished display. Quake certainly avenged their earlier result and now sit alone in second spot on the ladder. Well played lads!

14 girls – Quake 3 (Chrystal Duggan, Ruby Mosca, Ashlee Norman) – SCE 3

On paper, this looked an easy win was the Campbelltown side. However, a well organised and determined Eagles outfit had other ideas. After taking a 2-0 lead, Quake relaxed and allowed Sydney City to take control. The visitors probably had the better of the second half as they took a 3-2 lead late into the game. A Quake equaliser prompted the purple and orange into action as they searched for an unlikely winner. In the end, a share of the spoils was a fair result.

16 boys – Quake 1 (Shannon Fielding) – SCE 3

Missing personnel need not be an excuse for this poor performance. Three errors cost Quake dearly, as Sydney City punished them for their mistakes. Losing possession in vital parts of the court is what has cost them important points this year. It was always going to be a tight game against eternal rivals Sydney City, but errors against a quality side will always ‘end in tears’.

 

16 girls – Quake 5 (Kiralea Lowther, Elyse Sherry, Lucy Chapman, Mia Conners, OK) – SCE 0

This team continues to defy the odds and have notched-up their 4^th win of the season in convincing fashion. Always assisted by the 14 girls, the result speaks volumes for their team spirit; they shared the goals and shared a good win which keeps them on track for an unlikely play-off berth.

Youth Men - Quake 4 (Jake McGing, Harley Da Silva, Daniel Nelson, Daniel Vellonio) – SCE 3

The Quake Youth team will now be known as the “Cardiac Kids”. They have left it to the last minute a few times this season but none more dramatic than this sensational win against Sydney City. After a great start by the Eagles which sent them to a 3- 1 half-time lead, it was a great second half performance by Quake that guided them to this ‘great escape’. With scores locked at 3-a-piece, it was Daniel Vellonio who became an instant hero converting with just seconds on the clock, sending the large crowd into raptures. A very emotional win, very deserving for this hard working team.

Women – Quake 2 (Clare Tyson, Laura Donnelly) – SCE 4

Games between these 2 teams are always close, but the Eagles got us again! We looked a little flat and the more experienced Eagles took advantage. Taking a 3-nil lead within 20 minutes, it was always going to be hard work getting back into this one. However, to the credit of the Quake girls, they improved their performance and actually won the second half, eventually losing the match by 4-2.

Men – Quake 7 (Danny Martinez 3, Nathan Clissold 2, Mark Symington, Gary Seymour) – SCE 4

Some teams just bring the best out of you, and the Eagles do this to Quake. The boys from Campbelltown put in their best performance of the season by defeating competition front-runners in a very convincing manner. After conceding another early goal, the Quake boys (with some 4 youth and under 16 boys doubling-up) kept their composure and got back into the match with style. The equaliser was a Boomer “screamer”, with Nathan Clissold volleying a long throw from Gavin O’Brien. Then it was Choppy who gave Quake the lead from a well taken free kick. From here, Quake took control and the Sydney City play makers (Andres Gomez and Chris Zeballos), could not work their magic as the full court press employed by Quake proved successful. A well taken hat- trick by Danny Martinez and a great free kick by Mark Symington were some of the highlights in a good win by Quake.
