Quake vs Warriors Round 9 Match Reports

Quake took on Club Championship leaders Dural Warriors on Saturday and did slightly better than first time around this year. With 2 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses we were able to take 9 points from the runaway leaders and consolidate our position in the Championship. And with the Men winning their catch up game against Eagles on Sunday evening we were able to add another 3 valuable points to our tally.

Please not we cannot give you the goal scorers this week as they weren’t loaded by Warriors when they entered the results. Brief reports follow:

What a terrific game this was. The boys were given an absolute lesson by this squad in the first round but played terrific futsal and matched this very talented team on Saturday. An excellent advertisement for junior futsal and this performance was a true indicator of the ability of this squad. Well done boys

12 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by 40 Winks Campbelltown: Quake 2 def Warriors 1

The boys are firing now and are giving themselves are real chance to make the finals. In a total reversal of the first encounter Quake went into the half behind on the scoreboard and worked their socks off to score the 2 goals needed to take the win. What a fantastic effort and we’re looking forward to seeing these boys continue their improvement.

12 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by JR Electrical: Quake 0 def by Warriors 4

The score line isn’t a true indicator of how close this game was. Quake hit the post in the first 10 seconds of play and contained the Warriors dangerous target well. The only time we lost her was when play broke down and a hammer strike from 15 metres saw Warriors go into the break 0-1 up. The 2nd half start wasn’t what was hoped for with a bomb from half way by Warrior’s only other danger just going in under the crossbar. She scored 2 more to run the score out to 4. If the girls can create more chances and convert a better percentage of them then they can still push for the finals.

14 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by Capital Steel Buildings Southwest: Quake 1 def Warriors 0

As the score line indicates this was a very tight contest with both teams having limited chances and both ‘keepers doing their jobs when called on. With just a few minutes on the clock Quake looked like getting the winner through some brilliant work by Luke Carbone only to see him stab his shot at an open goal inches wide. But then a brain explosion by the Warriors ‘keeper gave Dalibor a chance and he rolled the ‘keeper and finished coolly to wrap up the 3 points.

14 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by Clintons Toyota: Quake 3 def by Warriors 4

The girls were down and out at half time trailing 1-3 and not really playing at their best. But they dug deep and, with the help if Lilly, Rosie and Ebony from the 12 Girls they fought their way back into the match. Ebony laid a beautiful pass to Rosie for her to make it 2-3 and then Hannah rolled a pass to Ash at the top of the D and she almost tore the back of the net off. But a late defensive lapse from a corner saw the girls concede a horrible goal and the draw they worked so hard for slipped from the grasp.

16 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by Einhell Australia: Quake 3 drew with Warriors 3

Perhaps I should copy and paste last week’s report. Although this was a closely fought contest the lads were always the more likely to win and looked to have wrapped the points up but again conceded a goal with little time left on the clock to drop yet another 2 points. They remain comfortably in the 4 but have a big game next week against arch rivals Enfield. Let’s hope we see them at their best.

16 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by Macarthur Marble & Granite: Quake 0 drew with Warriors 0

The girls lost this game last time around and needed a win to get back on track. But the score pretty much sums up this game. It was a dour struggle with Warriors having the better chances and Dana keeping the girls in the game with some very good saves. In the end they would have to be happy with a point.

Youth Proudly Sponsored by A.H. Beard: Quake 0 def by Warriors 3

The boys held the runaway leaders to 0-0 last time but this was a very different game. Both teams only created 2 clear cut chances in the 1st half but Warriors finished much the stronger of the 2 sides.

Women: Proudly Sponsored by Bella Arts Graphic Design: Quake 1 drew with Warriors 1

The girls again weren’t at their best but, having said that, they battled back to earn the draw against the 2nd placed Warriors and it took a man-of-the-match performance from the Warriors ‘keeper to deny them all 3 points. The girls are still travelling along nicely and the good news is with the finals still a fair way off they haven’t peaked yet.

Men: Proudly Sponsored by United Tools Liverpool: Quake 0 def by Warriors 8

The score-line says it all. Warriors are good, but not that good. As there are no real positives to report from this game we’ll move onto the good news………………

Men: Proudly Sponsored by United Tools Liverpool: Catch UP Game - Quake 8 def Eagles 3

After the Futsal lesson handed to the Men’s team by Dural on Saturday night, this game was looming as a test of character more than anything else. With Ian McAndrew and Scott Madden out with injuries sustained Saturday night, we relied on Shika and 16 year old Shaun Irwin and Marko Filipovic to fill the void.

The heavy defeat the night before primed the guys who started the game well, scoring early and setting the tempo, not allowing Sydney City into the match at any stage. After a very good first half, the teams went to the break with Quake leading 6-0. Sydney City certainly raised their game in the second stanza but the damage had already been done and Quake earned their third win of the year. Whilst the entire squad played well, Shaun and Marko did not look out of place, both going close to scoring their first goals in the top grade. In the end, a good night which went a little towards erasing the damage of Saturday (thanks for the report Carlos).
