Quake Reverse Fortunes Against Vipers

After suffering its worst ever results in a round of matches last week, Quake faced the difficult task of trying to take points off Vipers on Saturday.  In a reversal of fortunes we were able to split the points 13 a piece with 4 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses.  This was a very good effort considering we managed only 7 points in our Round 1 encounter.

Brief reports follow.

Academy: Proudly Sponsored by Xtreme Locksmiths

It rained goals for our lads this week which afforded Brett the opportunity to give Lucas a run on the field.  And he promptly took his chance by scoring 3!  The boys were dominant in this game and played some very nice, unselfish futsal.  A good hit out for next weekend when they face a very good Dural squad.

12 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by 40 Winks Campbelltown: Quake 3 (Jayden Barna 3) def Vipers 2

The next step in this squad's progress towards improvement.  The boys were very good value for their win and were able to turn the tables on Vipers and avenge their first round loss.  Jayden Barna was in the right place at the right time and picked up his hat-trick and he was ably supported by the rest of the boys who defended as well as they have all year.

12 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by JR Electrical: Quake 3 (Jess Gallazo, Rosie galea, Emily North) def by Vipers 6

What a difference a week makes.  Last week the girls were brilliant but this week they played their worst game of the year.  Having said that they got the score back to 3-5 after giving 5 goals away and missing too many chances to count in the first half.  Lots of work to do girls.

14 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by Capital Steel Buildings Southwest: Quake 4 (Daniel Blachura, Bradon Clissold, Anthony Haddad 2) def Vipers 1

Another result reversed from Round 1.  This time around Jimmy had a full squad at his disposal and they clicked from the get go.  The lads domintated the match and the score could have been anything as at least 4 shots hit the woodwork but didn't go in.  A strong effort by these lads.

14 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by Clintons Toyota: Quake 1 (Steph Cortes) def by Vipers 2

3 minutes - the girls were that close to earning a very good draw against the team that had won every game and had 6 players picked in the NSW Thunder squad.  After taking an early lead the girls defended with everything they had and frustrated Vipers into shooting from distance.  But one slight lapse resulted in a thunderous shot that barely went over the line after hitting the crossbar.  Superb effort girls, you deserved better.

16 Boys: Proudly Sponsored by Einhell Australia: Quake 3 (Anson Gilligan 2, Trent Sierra) drew with Vipers 3

Cruising 2-0 at half-time the boys switched off and found themselves at 2-2 with 10 minutes left to play.  They then decided to play again and scored a 3rd goal and looked set to take the 3 points when they conceded a goal 30 seconds from time.  A very disappointing result but the boys remain comfortably in the top 4.

16 Girls: Proudly Sponsored by Macarthur Marble & Granite: Quake 1 (Ruby Mosca) def by Vipers 2

It's hard to describe this game.  The girls fell behind to 2 unusual goals but worked hard and were in it right up until full-time.  Take the 2 goals out of the equation and the girls probably shaded the game.  But the result goes against them again and they now have a uphill battle to make the finals.

Youth Proudly Sponsored by A.H. Beard: Quake 2 (Bruno Antelmi, Nathan Scicchitano) def by Vipers 5

Easily the boys poorest performance of the year.  Their defence has been the key this year but it went missing in this game and they were plagued by their inability to take their chances.  They'll need to step up next week against Dural to prove their earlier form is a truer indicator of their quality.

Women: Proudly Sponsored by Bella Arts Graphic Design: Quake 6 (Laura Donnely 2, Logan Garard 3, Lauren Ralston) def Vipers 3

It's fair to say the girls didn't have a very good first half conceding 2 goals and missing chance after chance.  But they responded magnificently in the 2nd half and applied pressure higher up the court that resulted in their first goal.  Logan Garard then went on a rampage scoring 3 quick goals and Dolly applied the finishing touches by ramming home 2 more to leave the Vipers shell shocked.  Great effort ladies - your comeback was a sign of true champions.

Men: Proudly Sponsored by United Tools Liverpool: Quake 3 (Danny Martinez 2, Mark Symington) def Vipers 2

The lads got the result this week and reversed the 1st round heartbreaking loss to Vipers.  They thoroughly deserved the win.  Andy Haim started his first Men's game and kept a clean sheet, Mark Symington, Danny Martinez, Harley Da Silva and Scott Madden all put thier heart in it and they were ably assisted by the Youth and players who filled.  Well done boys!
