Team Profile: Women - Proudly Sponsored By Bella Arts Graphic Design

Bella Arts Rework

In our final instalment of Team Profiles we speak with Jimmy Gilligan about Quake's reigning Women's champion team.

Editor: Jimmy, the girls won the comp last year: business as usual or will you be taking a different approach?

Jimmy: Definitely business as usual, these girls already know just what it takes to be successful at this level. I am here to just fine tune a few things and inject some new ideas.

Editor: The girls have been together for a long time and have been successful throughout their careers. What do you put that down to?

Jimmy: Their passion for the game and to be the best they can be and their determination to win at all costs. I watch these girls each week at training and they all want to be the best, they are always challenging each other. Everything is done with 100% effort and no matter if we are dribbling, shooting, running or in a game they are always trying to raise the bar for the person next to them.

Editor: Do you think the girls have what it takes to defend their title?

Jimmy: There is no reason why we can’t go all the way this year, the only thing that can stop us is ourselves. If we stay focused, train hard and play well then we will be unbeatable.

Editor: Can you tell us a little about each of the girls?

Jimmy: We have a perfect balance of pace, skill, muscle and goal scoring nous that as a group we have the best team in this competition. We have our key spine of the team with Mel, Claire, Steph, Zoeie, Dolly, Juz and Shaz - these girls have been here forever and will be key this season if we are to be successful. We have recruited well with the additions of 2 old Quake faces, Lauren Ralston and Madison Strutt. Mix that with Jemma, Logan and Dana from our 16 girls and you can see why I have such high hopes for the season.

Editor: As you know, we like all our players to stay around and support their club mates.  What will our Purple Hearts see from the girls this year?

Jimmy: If you are keen to see a high intensity, action packed game with fast paced passing movement and plenty of goal mouth action to boot, than we are certainly the team to hang around and watch.
