Three Kings 8th Grade Invitational Tournament, Sunday 2nd August 2009

After such appalling weather on the Saturday, Sunday was looking like being postponed ( like all previoustournaments to date)..the day dawned bright but cool, and we didn't receive the dreaded phone call.

The Three Kings' grounds were in surprising good condition, unlike 3 of our players who were still recovering from the flu

The "boys" first opponents were Greenhithe. A team we'd not played or
seen play before. Closely fought contest but a 2-1 win to Bays. The second pool
game was against a highly fancied (by themselves) Fencibles team..again a close
fought match highlighted by some excellent defensive work. Unfortunately a 0-1
loss, but lessons well learned. Next up was Papakura Cougars..we owned this game and the score line
flattered the opposition..we were unable to capitalise on numerous shots on
goal, direct free kicks and a missed penalty.. a 6-1 win to Bays. The boys had
done enough to get through to the Plate .

First up against
North Shore..a tough and uncompromising game with both sides failing to finish
some great moves. A game marred by some "interesting" official
decisions..tied after full time 1-1. Extra time failed to break the
deadlock..penalties..! History was against us but the boys came through 6-4.

The Final was
against a spirited Western Springs team who played very well in defence. At one
all it was looking like extra time ,when a great cross from the right wing
found Bays players waiting, a magnificent right foot finish from the left back
( Jack) found the back of the net… 2-1 to Bays and winners of the Plate Final.

A big thanks to
everyone involved.. parents etc.. and well done are great ambassadors
for the club..looking forward to more upcoming tournaments.
