ECB 6 Birkenhead United 2 played 07/04/07

It took but 50 seconds for Bays to open their account for the season when Dan Peat was on hand to meet a Joe Bresnahan cross and power it into the back of the Birkenhead net. It was 2-0 after twelve minutes when the keeper palmed a Ryan Zoghby throw in and Nick Hyde was on the spot to net. Five minutes later Birkenhead were back in the game when Stuart Hogg played a one-two with Sam Bailey and put away a well-struck goal. Bays scored again in the 26th minute when Zoghby got his head to a Jonathan Munoz freekick to make it 3-1 which the score remained at half time. It became 4-1 in the 57th minute when a great pass from Bresnahan found Peat who made no mistake from close range. Young Daniel Morgan-Howell made his first team debut midway through the half and was quickly in action having two chances to score but putting both wide. He atoned for this minutes later by dropping a cross on Bresnahan"s head which made the score 5-1. With only a minute of normal tie remaining, Peat got the ball on halfway and and ran through the Birkenhead defence to claim a well-deserved hat trick. A stoppage time freekick allowed Birkenhead to grab a consolation goal. A promising debut from Daniel Morgan-Howell, a match winning hat trick from Dan Peat, total midfield dominance by Leigh Kenyon and Ryley Webster and a man of the match performance from Joe Bresnahan highlighted a superb team performance. Team: Jewell, Forrest, Sheehan, Zoghby, Bell (Gibson 89), Hyde, Kenyon, Webster, Munoz (Morgan-Howell 68), Bresnahan (Howitt 83), Peat Scorers: Peat 1,57,89; Hyde 12, Zoghby 26, Bresnahan 78
