ECB 4 Waitakere City 1 played 21/04/2007

East Coast Bays bounced back from their 5-1 loss to Central with a comfortable 4-0 win over apoor Waitakere side. Taking charge right from the whistle, Bays created a couple of chances before going ahead in the 12th minute when a clearance from Daniel Morgan-Howell found Dan Peat who beat his marker and cut the ball back to Leigh Kenyon who scored from close range. Waitakere came close on one occasion during the half when Neil Emblem headed over the bar from a free kick. Bays increased their lead in the 34th minute when Morgan-Howell, from wide out, lobbed the advancing keeper. Up 2-0 at the break, Bays continued to pressure early in the second half and Peat made a break when the defender slipped but scuffed his shot with only the keeper to beat. This pressure was telling and a defensive mix-up in the 54th minute allowed Joe Bresnahan to ghost in and place his shot past the keeper for 3-0. Jacob Spoonley was called into action on the hour when he plucked the ball off Emblem"s head and a Waitakere free kick minutes later was put wide. It could have been 4-0 straight after this when Morgan-Howell chased down a back pass, rounded the keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line. Dan Peat had been chasing had all day and was finaly rewarded in the 71st minute was given a through ball, the keeper came out to close down, and for the second time in the game was lobbed. Glen Forrest almost added another in the closing minutes after some great build up work. Both Daniels, Peat and Morgan-Howell created havoc with their pace, while Leigh Kenyon and Nick Hyde controlled the midfield and Phil Edginton and Ryan Zoghby were staunch in defence.
