ECB 4 Waitakere City 1 played 14/7/2007

A come from behind win but in the end quite comfortable. On an excellent surface at Fred Taylor Park, Bays had a great chance to open the scoring in the fourth minute but Joe Bresnahan headed wide. One minute later Bays were denied a stone cold penalty when Leigh Kenyon was dumped in the box by Neil Emblem, but the referee waved play on much to the surprise of Bays players and supporters. To rub salt into the wound, Waitakere then went ahead ten minutes later when from a break, Peter Norris scored from an acute angle to give Waitakere the lead. It took ten minutes of pressing for Bays to draw level. Ryan Zoghby made a great run, crossed the ball to Dan Peat who put the ball into the top of the net. Phil Edginton had the ball plucked off his head by the keeper but got on the scoresheet just after the half hour when the keeper misjudged a corner and the ball hit Edginton and found the back of the net. It got worse for Waitakere a minute later when they had a player sent off for his second bookable offence and Bays went to the break leading 2-1. The second half had Bays in control early and Bresnahan, Zoghby and Ric Sheehan were denied in the first ten minutes as Waitakere had nine back in defence. Peat and Zoghby were denied again before an individual display of brilliance by Edginton landed the third goal. he won the ball on half way, before taking out five defenders during a superb run and slotting home past the keeper for one of the goals of the season. Bays continued to press and were further rewarded in the 90th minute when Arek Kubicki goaled from a Kenyon cross. Outstanding games by Phil Edginton and Ryan Zoghby in defence with Leigh Kenyon and Ryley Webster dominating the midfield and Dan Peat causing problems up front. Team: Jewell, Forrest, Edginton, Suri, Zoghby, Sheehan (Broderson 75), Kenyon, Hyde, Webster, Bresnahan (Kubicki 75), Peat (McKeown 84). Goals: Peat 23, Edginton 32, 80, Kubicki 90
