ECB 0 Eastern Suburbs 2 played 31/03/2007

Bays had some 80% of the play but couldn"t find the back of the net with a guide dog, whereas Suburbs took what few chances they had and made Bays pay. Jacob Spoonley had two saves to make in the first half whereas Bays missed chance after chance after chance. Only two minutes had elapsed when Phil Edgington took advantage of a freekick to outwit the defence but hit a tame shot sraight at the keeper. Eight minutes later a great run by Dan Peat down the wing saw a great cross deliverd but Joe Bresnahan had the ball bundled clear before he could do anything with it. In the remainder of the half, Ric Sheehan, Ryan Zoghby, Leigh Kenyon and George Suri all put attempts over the bar with a Jonathan Munoz freekick one minute from the break causing the most trouble being just touched over by the keeper. As often happens, the visitors scored straight after the interval. The defence weren"t fully into the game and Andrew Webber saw an opportunity and planted a shot wide of Spoonley. Bays came back on attack and Suburbs keeper Sean Dowling was forced to concede a corner which sadly came to nothing. just on the hour Nick Hyde was fouled just outside the box but the resultant freekick was again wasted. Bays contined to press with Suri and Hyde both being denied. Then with only two minutes of normal time remaining, Suburbs cleared an attack, Glen Eie made a good run down the left and shot, Spoonley parried the shot and Webber was on hand to put away the rebound. A disappointing start to the season. Team: Spoonley, Forrest,Edginton, Zoghby, Sheehan, Hyde, Kenyon, Webster, Munoz(Howitt 67), Bresnahan(Kubicki 76), Peat(Grabowski 87)
