ECB 3 Hibiscus Coast 0 played 02/08/2008

Conditions were not kind and it was pretty painful to watch but East Coast Bays clinched the championship with three games remaining after defeating Hibiscus Coast 3-0 at Stanmore Bay. It took Bays only three minutes to get on the scoreboard when Dan Peat took off down the right, easily beat his defenders and cut in toward goal. Instead of finishing himself he squared the ball across and Avi Estrin stretched himself to prod the ball into an unguarded net. A fine save from the Hibiscus keeper denied Peat just after the quarter hour and bays dominated the half but struggled to finish. With just four minutes remaining in the half, Peat was dumped in the box and Phil Edginton, playing his final game before returning to his scholarship in the USA was given the honour of taking the penalty. Sadly his effort was blazed over the bar. In the final minute of the half another Peat run took him into the box and he squeezed his shot through a forest of legs to give Bays a 2-0 half time lead. Hibiscus almost caught Bays napping at the start of the second half when Joey Waugh got through but he was blocked. Ten minutes later an Edginton header from a corner was disallowed for an infringement. Bays were having problems against a ten man defence especially from set pieces and coupled with some woeful shooting only partly contributable to ground conditions, were not making full use of their dominance. Bays were battering the Hibiscus goal but it was not until five minutes remained that Jeff Campbell got on to a Nick Hyde cross and slotted the third goal. Shortly after the referee put everyone out of their misery by blowing for full time. Team: Gwilt, Beguely, Suri, Edginton, Zoghby, Kenyon, Bresnahan, Campbell, Estrin(Morgan-Howell 64), Peat (Hyde 79), Kubicki (Forrest 69). Scorers: Estrin 3, Peat 44, Campbell 84
