ECB 6 BIrkenhead United 1 played 03/05/2008

Bays had to survive an uncomfortable twenty minutes as the unfancied Birkenhead side took the game to them. There were a couple of chances for the home side but resolute Birkenhead defending and the crossbar kept the game scoreless. just on the half hour, Bays took the lead when a Dan Peat pass put Joe Bresnahan through and he made no mistake from close range. The score doubled two minutes later when the ball was headed back right from the touchline and Arek Kubicki goaled from right on the line. Bays kept pressing and six minutes later a defensive blunder from Birkenhead allowed Leigh Kenyon through to make it 3-0. Five minutes into the second half, Peat broke through and rounded the keeper to make it 4-0 and two minutes later he repeated the effort to make it 5-0. Although down and with their backs to the wall, Birkenhead refused to give up and Maurie Wasi in particular was keeping the bays defence on their toes. Bays had the ball in the net twice more but both were disallowed for offside before George Suri scored number six when he collected a rebound off the upright to steer into the net. With two minutes of normal time remaining, Wasi got his due reward, pouncing on a Bays defensive error to give the visitors a consolation goal. Team: Jewell, Forrest, Suri, Hyde, Beguely, Kenyon, Bresnahan (Webster 60), Zoghby, McKeown (Campbell 49), Kubicki, Peat (Morgan-Howell 80). Scorers, Bresnahan 30, Kubicki 32, Kenyon 38, Peat 50,52, Suri 80
