ECB 4 Takapuna 0 played 05/07/2008

Bays had struggled against Takapuna in their first meeting at Taharoto Park and the first half was a closely contested affair. Bays fired the first salvo when Daniel Morgan-Howell was put through but shot wide in the third minute. The same player set up Jeff Campbell just on the quarter hour but the shot was just over. Takapuna were keeping the Bays defence honest and Dimas Da Silva was closely watched. Arek Kubicki saw his shot deflected wide for a corner and Takapuna"s keeper, Gary Lonergan, saved from Campbell and at the feet of Morgan-Howell. Right on half time, Bays won a free kick. Dan Peat"s shot hit the upright and was deflected for a corner. Campbell placed the ball on the head of Phil Edginton and he made no mistake from close range to give bays a 1-0 lead. Things got worse for Takapuna tow minutes into the second half when Chris Horrocks who had been verbalising the Bays players throughout the came, fouled Joe Bresnahan and then as he was trying to get up threw him down on the pitch and was deservedly red-carded. Bays haven"t payed well against ten men in previous games, but took advantage and started to pressure Takapuna. Peat had put one over the bar earlier in the half but in the 69th minute curled a low drive wide of the keeper to double the lead. This second goal took a lot out of Takapuna and six minutes later, Ryley Webster saw his drive deflected past the keeper to make it 3-0. Three minutes later Jason McKeown made it 4-0 from close range. The remainder of the game saw Bays lay seige to the Takapuna goal but some excellent goalkeeping made sure there was no further addition to the score. Team: Jewell, Forrest, Suri, Edginton, Estrin (Webster 62), Zoghby, Campbell, Bresnahan, Morgan-Howell (McKeown 53), Kubicki (Beguely 71), Peat Scorers: Edginton 45, Peat 69, Webster 75, McKeown 78
