ECB 4 Birkenhead Utd 0 played 20/08/2008

The first half was totally forgettable as both teams struggled to adjust to the conditions of the artificial surface at North Harbour Stadium after playing on some very wet and boggy pitches over the course of the last month. The ball was moving so much faster and caught a lot of players out. 0-0 at halftime was a fair reflection of the play as neither side had created much but Bays were on the scoreboard within seconds of the commencement of the second half. From the kickoff the ball was passed wide to Ryley Webster of the right flank, he took the ball down to the edge of the penalty area, crossed it and Dan Peat finished off from close range. Bays took charge and Birkenhead were forced in to some desperate defending denying Peat twice, Webster and Leigh Kenyon. The pressure told and ten minutes into the half, Peat was dumped in the box. Jeff Campbell took the resultant penalty which was saved by Scott Read but Birkenhead had encroached into the box and a retake was ordered. Campbell made no mistake the second time. Ten minutes later it was 3-0 as in a repeat of the first goal, Glen Forrest this time took the ball don the right flank, crossed and Peat again finished the move. There was initially some confusion as the ball went through a hole in the net but this was sorted out and the goal given. Willy made changes to give some of the other players a run as Bays continued to dominate. Right on time, Leigh Kenyon found himself in space and curled a peach of a shot over the keeper and into the top of the net to finish off the scoring and give Bays another convincing win. Team: Gwilt, Forrest, Hyde, Suri, Estrin, Kenyon, Campbell, Bresnahan (McArdle 77), Webster, Peat (Morgan-Howell 72), McKeown (Kubicki 62). Scorers: Peat 46, 67, Campbell (pen) 57, Kenyon 90
