Bays ran away with this game, comfortably defeating Papatoetoe 7-1 in a Chatham Cup game. Papatoetoe had knocked out Bay Olympic in the previous round so Bays were expecting a difficult game at Papatoetoe"s home ground but went ahead after nine minutes when Ryley Webster won the ball in the Papatoetoe half, surged foward, shot, the keeper could only parry the shot and Joe Bresnahan had an easy tap in to open the scoring. The second goal came after twenty minutes when a goalmouthscramble was not cleared and Nick Hyde shot home from close range. Worse was to come for Papatoetoe as Bays won the ball from the kickoff, it was played wide to Michael Bell who took off down the left, cut inside, saw his shot only partly cleared and Jonathan Navarette Munoz was on hand to put the ball in the back of the net. Cruising at this stage Bays were brought back to earth in stoppage time when Cody Patterson collecrted the ball some 25 metres out and planted a beautiful shot into the top of the net giving Sam Jewell no chance. A much less complacent team came out for the second half and ten minutes into the half, Leigh Kenyon and Glen Forrest combined in a great passing movement that left three players sprawled on the turf and Webster knocked the ball into an open goal. Kenyon and Forrest had an instant replay straight from the kickoff and Forrest"s cross to Dan Peat saw him notch the fifth goal for Bays. It got worse for Papatoetoe when Bresnahan was taken out by the keeper, but he redeemed himself by saving Munoz"s penalty. Bays were firmly in control and Ricky Broderson was next to get on the scoresheet when Kenyon broke through and pulled the ball back for Broderson to score. Both Peat and Arek Kubicki had chances but put them wide before Peat again punished a partial clearance to notch his second with minues remaining. A comprehensive win against opponents from a lower division.
