Match Report Chatham Cup: East Coast Bays 5 Mt Albert Ponsonby 1 played 02 June 2008 The reward for taking care of AFC Fury in the first round was another away trip, this time to Mt Albert Ponsonby who have taken our place in the revamped Northern League. It has also been some years since Bays last visited Anderson Park It was overcast but dry for kick off and Bays were quick to assert their superiority taking the lead within seven minutes. A Jeff Campbell drive took a deflection off a Mt Albert defender and brushed Arek Kubicki on its way into the net. The score could have doubled two minutes later when George Suri let fly with a screamer but keeper Zane Green superbly touched it round the post. Bays were dominant and it was Suri who laid on the second goal with a defence-splitting pass to Dan Peat who placed his shot wide of the keeper. Bays were virtually camped in Mt Albert territory with only the occasional attempted breakout keeping the defenders on their toes but the third goal came just two minutes from the break when a Campbell pass found Daniel Morgan-Howell and his cross allowed Kubicki to finish off from close range. The second half was more of the same with Bays dominating. Their passing was killing Mt Albert who were defending desperately and coupled with some excellent goalkeeping which saw both Phil Edginton and Nick Hyde denied on the goal line. With six minutes of normal time remaining the Bays defence switched off and Mt Albert scored. Bays then switched from cruise mode and scored straight from the kick off when Kubicki beat the defensive barrier and made no mistake. Mt Albert were hanging on for dear life but couldn"t prevent Morgan-Howell from capping off and excellent game when he got the ball and beat three defenders on the line before scoring number five. Campbell squandered a sitter in stoppage time and it was all over with Bays through to the next round - another away trip, this time to Eastern Suburbs.
