The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
A first half defensive horror show allowed Eastern Suburbs to go four goals up within twenty-one minutes and the game was effectively over as a contest.
It got worse for Bays just past the half hour, when Judd Baker left, carried off with a suspected broken jaw, following a collision in the Suburbs penalty area.
It all started to go wrong in the eighth minute when a clumsy tackle saw Suburbs awarded a penalty, duly converted by Tom Shaw. Three minutes later Shaw scored again, latching on to a loose ball after Michael Williams had blocked and earlier drive.
The defence was floundering and it was no surprise when in the 17th minute, Derek Tieku, skipped past several players to plant the ball past Williams and put Suburbs 3-0 up.
Four minutes later it was 4-0 after Charl Compaan took a pass from Armin Pasagic, waltzed by a static defensive cover and gave Williams no chance from close range.
Bays finally got a chance on goal after half an hour but Dylan Stansfield’s header scraped past the post. Moments later, Baker’s header hit the upright, but he collided with a defender, and had to leave the field, his season possibly over.
This enforced injury break, slowed things down a bit and play continued to the half time break.
The second half saw a more composed and determined Bays side while Suburbs, comfortably ahead, eased off a little.
Stansfield tried hard, but had few chances although he put away the penalty that Bays were awarded when Dillon Barnett was brought down in the area. He also had another effort cleared off the line.
Substitute Dan Peat also had his time on the pitch cut short, succumbing to injury and needing to be replaced.
The ball wasn’t bouncing for Bays as they tried to improve the scoreline, with chances blocked or turned wide. It got worse in the last two minutes, when Dylan Bull headed in a cross to give Suburbs a 5-1 victory.
A game best forgotten.
