The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
It all started well for an injury-hit East Coast Bays team against Central United. Both teams like to play football and the first ten minutes saw attack and counter, as they jockeyed for supremacy.
Judd Baker had an early chance after eight minutes, when he broke the defence but his strike was straight at the keeper, a chance missed.
Six minutes later, Central took the lead when a cross from the right was not cut out and Nicolas Zambrano headed in from close range.
An inspired Central then took control of the game, putting the Bays defence under considerable pressure. Logan Archer cleared a cross, Zambrano was put through but shot wide and in the 27th minute another cross from the right found Vincent Pineau on the far post and his header gave Michael Williams no chance.
Bays managed to mount the odd counter, but every time the crosses into the box accurately found Central’s keeper Danyon Drake, who enjoyed the catching practice.
Zambrano was put through again but Williams pulled off a fine save to deny him.
Bays broke from the resulting corner but it came to nothing.
Another Central corner in the 40th minute saw Scott Hilliar make it 3-0 with another header and Bays were in danger of being overrun, the half time break was welcome.
The second half was just five minutes gone when it got worse for Bays. A wayward back pass from Michael Kolston was latched on to by Central, Alec Solomons, in attempting to deny another goal, brought the striker down and was adjudged to be denying a goal scoring chance. Red Card and Bays down to 10.
With the man advantage, Central were dominating, pushing Bays deeper and deeper defensively. Some poor finishing and better defending kept them at bay.
Just past the hour, Bays had a chance to pull a goal back when Andrew Mobberley broke clear but his strike was too close to Drake and the keeper made another good save.
Regont Murati saw his drive smack the upright and bounce clear as Central kept up the pressure. Bays had few chances as the minutes passed but Lee Robinson was denied by a stunning save by Drake after some brilliant footwork saw him beat three players before striking.
With just a minute remaining, Mario Ilich had a chance from the edge of the box and his strike went into the corner of the net to make it a miserable evening for Bays.
Team: Williams, White, Canton (Robinson 46), Solomons, Kolston, Archer, McKeown, Mc Minn (Peat 72), Mobberley (Carter 76), Baker, Stansfield.
