The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
Sunday 5 July was a beautiful day with a light wind and the grounds were in great condition forthe Papamoa tournament. The boys were well supported as most families had come down for a night or two with school holidays starting.
We won the first game 1-0 against Otumoetai Storm and then had consecutive 6-0 wins over Cambridge Allstars and Hillcrest Wolverines.
The final game of the round was against Papamoa Storm, also unbeaten. The wind had increased tosuch an extent that most of the gazebo's had been dismantles to stop them flying away. ECB dominated the game and were leading 2-0 when Papamoascord a breakaway goal, the coach was a little panicked but theboys prevailed 2-1.
Only the goalkeepr hadn't scored after the group stage, a great statistic for a coach.
We met Otumoetai Storm again in the quarter finals, they being the best third placed team. We started well with a goal in five seconds (some said it was three) and dominated but another bteakaway goal made it 1-1, it looked like penalties, but a late strike gave us a 2-1 victory.
Hibiscus Coast were our semi-final opponents and although we dominated we couldn't score. We won a free kick as time ran out, Ian's kick found an unmarked Declan on the far post, his header found the back of the net for the winner. Stunning!!
The final saw us face Papamoa Storm again. It was a tight, end to end, entertaining game (for the spectators - not the coach or parents), 1-1 with a minute to go.
ECB forced a corner. Orlando took it, his cross found Brendon unmarked and his header was on target.2-1 ECB. The last minute dragged on forever, finally the whistle went and we had won.
Well done to the team: Brendon, Nick, Dylan, Seth, Ian, Mateo, Hunter, Orlando and Cam.
Special thanks to the parents and Adelle the manager
Other results from Papamoa: 9th Grade Sands won plate; 9th Grade Look were runners-up in the championship; 11th Grade Stansfield were runners-up in the championship
