The Premiers and Development team have finished their season.
The 9th Grade Sands and Look teams had a great day on Sunday 7 June at the Three Kings Tournament. Keith Hay Park was cold and wet while setting up the gazebo. Enthusiasm was high for both teams and they got off to fantastic starts with high scoring wins in their first two pool games. Team Look finished their pool undefeated, while Team Sands had a hard fought 0-1 loss to Forrest Hill but due to their good wins earlier, topped their pool also, progessing to the semi-finals.
Both sides received positive comments from referees, opposition coaches and supporters for their style and talent with special mention going to strikers Liam Linton and Ashton Fairhurst who both won a golden boot for scoring 7 goals each.
In the semi-finals, Team Sands prevailed 1-0 over Fencibles United, while Team Look were taken to extra time by Papakura City before coming out winners. Two Bays teams in the final!
The final was a nervous affair as both teams trained and played each other on Monday evenings. Team Sands started the stronger with Liam Linton and Jack MacNaught both scoring in the 4th and 5th minutes. The rest of the half remained scoreless. Team Look started the second half with more purpose and were rewarded with a goal. Chasing a second goal allowed the game to open up, generating opportunities for both sides, but goalkeepers Fergus Postles and Luke Lee, were up for the challenge, denying everything that came their way.
Final result 2-1 to Team Sands, but ECB 9th Grade were the overall winners of the tournament.
Thanks to Three Kings for hosting a fantastic tournament and thanks to the parents, coaches, volunteers and players for a great day of football. it is a day that will stay with this coach for a long time to come.
